The great thing about this mod is, it uses it own executable and its own resource files.
You can have PBEMs running in both this mod and the base game, with its 1.4 patch simultaneously, with absolutely no hassle or need to switch between them. The wrapper even treats them as separate games, just like it treats AoW1 and AoW2 as separate games.
Hellbrick did some great work with the modified executable; there's 37 bugfixes, and overall beneficial balance changes, in addition to the other changes he made. When you install it, you get his MPE 2.0 mod to play with, but it is easy to modify this using his editor program, or even paste over the 1.4patch resources and play with those in the slightly superior new engine.
If I can get some people playing this mod with me, it raises a further possibility, of us modding either from MPE 2.0's base state or from 1.4's base state. And this wouldn't cause any interruption to our current aow2 PBEMs. We could make all the useless units useful. We could add all sorts of neat thematic details. We could fiddle with wall HP (it's stupid how irrelevant walls become in big lategame fights in PBEM autocombat, compared to their sustained significance in tactical: we could fix that for Stone Walls) and make buildings more or less expensive. We could add entire new units with graphics cribbed from various places, including the old infinity engine RPGs like Planescape.
I bet none of you old fogeys are interested....
