Hi, I just beat my assassin and did a playthrough with loremaster/trader.

It went fast without combat, and the playthrough is over already. However this raised up the question.

Having 9 Etiqutte, 8 persuasion, 7 streetwise, charisma 9 as the chosen one, house crassus reputation at 28, and fled the flying ship to Ganezzar!! Yet, Meru is still unimpressed when we first met(technically it's the second time since he greet you at buoy).

Is it an automatically fail with this merchant quest? I thought flying the ship before meeting him in the castle would have special dialogue but apparently there isn't, and the first mission of the quest chain would just fail.

By the way, I think there is a text error in this quest chain.

In the third city, after you returned from Al Akia, the conversation with Meru would show this line.

... A power sharing deal. If he keeps Gaelius at bay, I'll bless the Imperial Guards.

But didn't early quests from Commercium already remove Gaelius and put Serenas in place? I believe this is a text error involving with the quest chain.

Also, playing as a mercenary to imperial going to Ganzette would have transition problem. There is no exit if you broke the handcuff midway, therefore had to choose going through the trail in court to progress.

There is a similar bug https://steamcommunity.com/app/230070/discussions/0/523897653318762869/ but it's the thief route, however both stuck on map errors seem to occur with a mercenary start.

You ask good questions, my friend!

I don't think the merchant quest fails automatically. I know you can win over Meru if you are the Chosen One and if you take every opportunity to get your House Crassus reputation as high as possible. I think you also have to make sure Feng remains in Teron, because if you betray him and he goes to Ganezzar, he will poison Meru's opinion of you.

I remember I joined House Crassus once, but I don't think I was a Merchant. It could be different for the Commercium plot line.

Yes, that's possible. There are a few of them, especially in the later parts of the game, like Ganezzar.

I don't know whether you're aware of this or not, but Iron Tower is scheduled to release one final major free upgrade to AoD. Last I heard, they said it would be coming out in December or early 2017. In other words, any day now!

Thanks for the answer!

I've Feng left in Teron because my merchant/lore master had terrible physical stats, therefore kiling Cassius took several tries which was quite memorable. Not sure what I miss to impress him the first time.

The other playthroughs I had were assassins& imperial guards which don't involve impressing Meru at all. It's much easier for assassins to join Meru than Imperial, which path required reputation checks.

Time to call a halt and wait for the December update! :D

If you're on the Commercium questline (i.e. you work with Athanasius or whatever his name is in Ganezzar), not impressing him when you meet him as part of that quest line shouldn't kill the quest.

Just return to Athanasius and he'll let you know what to do - he has a plan which should help.

I thought as the Chosen One you'd be able to convince Meru straight away (and given your stats and rep). How many points do you have in impersonate? Impersonate may play into it for the initial conversation - can't remember if it's needed for Athanasius's plan, but I do remember there being many ways (each with slightly different stat checks) to get through this.

Also, Feng might sour Meru's opinion of you somewhat if he's there, but with your stats you would have been able to talk your way back into Meru's graces without too much trouble (which of course isn't necessary anyway since Feng is still in Teron).

Finally, as a merchant "joining" Meru should occur if you follow Athanasius.

Actually, one final thought - when you brought the airship back, did you do it to end the siege? That may change things, although it shouldn't - that is, if Athanasius doesn't have anything further for you, then you may have found a continuity bug.

I'd finished the merchant quest chain. Athanasius would prepare a miracle play for me to go through in order to impress Meru, and I believe most people who went Commerium route would use this method to solve the quest.

Just wondering if it's possible to impress him the first time, skipping the later chain.

Since the first quest was written to impress Meru,I did the flying ship there. A chosen one coming to town by airship sounds pretty impressive to me so I tried this before talking to Meru, however there is little to no changes in the path I believe.

Deragus also seems to have text error in the imperial route. If you haven't' spoken to him and Meru got killed, he would speak as if Meru is still alive.

I'm not sure if it is possible to convince him the first time - it might be just the way the quest is set up. If you couldn't do it as the Chosen One then I would say it's not possible (the first time).

The flying ship does raise your reputation with House Crassus, but other than that its main purpose is to break the siege (if used during it, a bunch of options appear - not sure if you can still use it if you've already flown it there prior to the siege starting). You're not the first to wish for additional options with respect to the flying ship - I guess they didn't put too much stuff in there for it because it's one of the more difficult things to do.

That Deragus (or whatever his name is) error sounds like a bug all right. It might be an idea to mention this on the Iron Tower forum (if it hasn't been mentioned), as I'm not sure if the devs read GOG forums. Main forum is here: http://www.irontowerstudio.com/forum/index.php?board=1.0

Surprisingly they're still adding content
