Starting as Granada ( obviously! ;) ) I figured out how to recruit and move units, proceeded to declare war on Castille, then captured both Jaen and Sevilla provinces.

After that... Nothing. The bar for activities such as move, recruit, etc, in the bottom left just disappeared. I can no longer take actions of any kind, during any turn.

Hardly a good start when this happens just a few turns into the game, and I can find absolutely no way to bring that menu back up, bearing in mind I didn't click anything to close it.

Hi there. That's simply because the turns are partitioned in phases. (Without any visible hint to it.) You simply have to hit "end turn" until you got your buttons back. Only then it's really the next turn. ;) Each time you hit "end turn" one move is executed so to say.
