Unfortunately it is not possible to play this game in higher resolution in fullscreen, only in windowed mode. However with great help from the user Hustlefan I managed to create a patch that switches the game to borderless windowed mode and sets the monitor to a resolution of 1440x1080 which looks much better. For this to work the monitor of course would have to support this resolution (in most cases it is enough to simply add a custom resolution in your GPU driver). After quitting the game the resolution will automatically be set to 1080p.

To use this patch simply extract the files from the archive into the game directory and double click the file Patch.bat to install the patch - if you want to deinstall the patch just double click the file again. Before installation you will be asked if you want to use the German (Deutsch) or English (Englisch) version of the patch or if you want to abort the install (Abbruch). Depending on your choice here the text of the game will be in German or English. The patch is compatible with the offline installation as well as the Galaxy installation.

If you use this patch you do this at your own risk and of course it is always good to backup your game first in case something does not work as intended. If you are interested in the patch you can find it here:

Es ist leider unmöglich, das Spiel in einer höheren Auflösung in Fullscreen zu spielen. Mit der unschätzbaren Hilfe von Hustlefan habe ich nun aber einen Patch gebastelt, der das Spiel in den Fenstermodus (rahmenlos) umschaltet und den Bildschirm auf einen 4:3 Modus in der Auflösung 1440x1080 setzt, womit das Spiel doch um einiges schöner aussieht. Damit das ganze funktioniert, muss der Monitor diese Auflösung jedoch unterstützen (wenn nicht vorhanden, reicht es meist, einfach eine neue, benutzerdefinierte Auflösung zu erstellen). Nach Beendigung des Spieles wird die Bildschirmauflösung auf 1080p gesetzt.

Einfach die Dateien in das Spielverzeichnis extrahieren und im Anschluss die Patch.bat Datei starten, um den Patch zu installieren - ein erneutes Aufrufen der Datei deinstalliert den Patch wieder. Bei der Installation des Patches wird zudem gefragt, ob die deutsche oder englische Version installiert werden soll, was sich auf die Textausgabe des Spieles bezieht. Der Patch ist sowohl mit dem offline Installer als auch Galaxy voll kompatibel.

Selbstverständlich erfolgt jegliche Nutzung auf eigene Gefahr und im Zweifel ist es immer ratsam, ein Backup zu erstellen. Bei Interesse findet ihr den Patch hier:

Strange, the game is in HD and full screen already when I install the GOG version? I do have the 1440 x 1080 resolution, though. Might have to do with that? In that case it's sufficient to just add this custom resolution trhough your GPU config panel?

I stand corrected. Without the patch, the game plays full screen but at a resolution of 1024 x 768. With the HD patch it indeed becomes 1440 x 1080. Since the HD patch does not affect the backgrounds in any way, you really have to look at the characters. These are indeed a bit sharper than in the original.

I noticed that when you use "main.exe" it launches the game in the correct aspect ratio, but when you use "A Vampyre Story.exe" it launches the game at the Windows resolution (so incorrect aspect ratio for most of the people). So I guess you need to launch "main.exe", right?

The file "incorrectapsectr.jpg" shows the screen when the game is launched through "A Vampyre Story.exe"

Noticed that the patch is not really working when u make a desktop shortcut to main.exe and launch the game that way. You see your desktop being changed to 1440 x 1280 but then the game launches in a window...

Yes, that is exactly what the patch is supposed to do. Yes. "A Vampyre Story" is part of the patch and should not be launched seperately. It only switches to borderless windowed mode and maximizes the window. Always launch main.exe. The main.exe used by the patch is the one that changes your resolution. So without it being launched first (or setting your screen manually to a 4:3 resolution) you will always have incorrect aspect ratio when launching the game in windowed mode. This is the reason why this patch does two things: setting screen to 4:3 and setting game to borderless windowed mode - maximized. Hustlefan and myself reworked the patch and uploaded a new version. Please download it (same link) and try it again.

Please deactivate the actual patch first before installing the new version by lauching patch.bat once again (It should read "Patch deaktiviert").

Yep, this works! With the new patch, also the shortcut on the desktop works.

I had to make my own shortcut to "main.exe", because the one the GOG installer creates on installation, doesn't seem to work for me. It launches a black screen and closes it again, returning to the desktop. This has nothing to do with your patch, because this already was the case when I installed the game without patching it...

I cannot download this. Google Drive is saying that the file has a virus and cannot be downloaded

This should have been fixed already but I will take a look at it when I am at home (can't test this at work). If necessary I will reupload it elsewhere.

Edit: Okay. I tested it myself. For me google is saying that the file contains a virus (which is not the case but unfortunately google thinks so because of the way the patch is working) but still lets me download it. Then again, I am the owner of the file so it might be that I get a different message than others. Because of this I've reuploaded the small file to another host and added the link to this mirror in the OP. Hopefully you will have more luck with the new link.

It's been a very long time. I had forgotten about this patch and today I finally got it. It works wonderfully, I can't believe you made it this good. With this you can play this game in modern machines with no problem whatsoever. Thanks a lot for your efforts.

Anyway , i thought the fixes from the Zoom-platform version were brought over to the steam version or is this something different ?

Thank you for the message. Will reupload the file locked with a password so that google cannot check it. Feel free to check the file using virustotal or sth. similar - there's no virus in it. It's also a community fix and nothing that's been taken from the Zoom version of the game.
