Hi,
Saw this on sale and have an interest in the subject matter and the type of game it is.
Is it any good?. Pro cons?

cheers

You're a young legionary, you train, you fight in campaigns (text adventures and tactical fights), you gain skill, coin, material and reknown, and you can decide to retire. Or you continue an other set of historical campaigns. Etc until death if you didn't retired soon enough.
When retiring, or even dying, you gain points to enhance your next game.
I like it. It's a lot of reading and though the combat is rather simple the writing is good and for me at least very immersive.
HOWEVER as there's only one (historically very accurate) campaign the writing really only matters that much on the first playthrough.
Though for me it's fun to rise through the ranks of the legion and bring glory to the empire :-)

Did not play this in quite some time, so I go by (bad) memory here. I would say that the roguelite part (you cannot save) is what destroyed the game for me. I played 3-4 times, got through a few battles, then RNG kills me. I just don't feel like trying the same steps over and over again to get to a point where I die, or maybe I live and die 5 minutes later. Life's too short, I should be able to load and try again.
Wisdom is the way. Only do the heroe if you are well prepared.
In battles, I spare myself, waiting to strike when one put its guard down.
Really don't go the heroe way: With bad luck you'll easily die.
I'm the heroe not by looking to defeating my foe, but by outsurviving it.
It needs good skills, excellent sword and armor, and knowing when to wait (armor is built for that).

The more you play, the more you'll have legacy to help you start better.
