So while driving I am getting the following info. Opponent x is now the preferred (or something similar) driver in x city.
How exactly do they get it?
Thanks for the info,
Chees

Today is the 2nd August 2023 and yes, I know the question has been written on 10th July 2022, yet I want to give a reply to it anyway, if anyone else is also wondering about this, because no one did so until now:

To become the preferred driver in a city and therefore having the chance to pick up a cargo with a higher reward in that very city, thus having the chance to make even more money, all you need to do is to make the most money in this city, by just keep transporting goods to that city and therefore raise the amount of money you are actually making in that city. Even if no opponent is delivering any cargo to that city, you will need to deliver a few cargos to that city, until you will finally become the preferred driver, as far as I know that would take about 4-5 cargos that you will have to deliver to that very city. The higher the amount of money that you actually get for the certain good that you are delivering to that city, the higher is the actual chance that you will become the preferred driver in that city.

Be advised that the type of good doesn’t matter at all, nor does the number of cargos that you have delivered to that city. All you need to do is to earn a higher amount of money than your opponents. You therefore will need to find a lucrative route, which allows you to drive back and forth between two cities, for example delivering explosives between Denver and San Francisco back and forth is one of those routes. You can check how likely you are to finally take the city yourself, by opening your notebook and checking out the routes section and then look at the length of the colored bars. The closer your own bar is to the opponent’s bar in length, the higher the chance that you will take the city from him. Obviously, if you have hired a driver, he/she can do this too, so the best way is to buy as many trucks and therefore hire as many drivers as possible and try to cover all the cities of the game with their routes (up to three routes per driver are possible), to raise your chance to get more and more cities “under your control”.

Again, all you get from that is to find a better cargo in the city in which you are the preferred driver, which will allow you to earn more money and get rich a little faster. Otherwise, there is no difference, except for a small money bonus of only a very few Dollar, so do not panic if the other opponents seem to become the preferred drivers in more and more cities, the AI is cheating anyway in this game, as they are not driving in real time as you actually need to do and rather "teleport" to their next destination.
