Kazuma Kiryu has earned his retirement on the sandy beaches of Okinawa. But when a deadly power struggle arrives on his doorstep, he’ll have to walk the streets of Kamurocho to escape his past for good. Complete The Dragon of Dojima’s journey.
Experience the third chapter of the Kazuma Kiryu saga with restored content in 1080p and 60fps.
A year after the Kanto-Kansai all-out war, Kazuma Kiryu and Haruka Sawamura have left the unforgiving streets of Kamurocho for the island of Okinawa to run the Morning Glory Orphanage. Despite his efforts, shadows of Kiryu's past threaten to entangle the Morning Glory Orphanage in a deadly power struggle involving the Tojo Clan and political world.
Thus begins a dramatic tale set in the ""sleepless city"" of Kamurocho in Tokyo and the tropical lands of Okinawa. Can Kiryu rescue the children of the orphanage from the looming threats emerging from the depths of the underworld and state power?
Out of all Yakuza, this is I like the least. The first 4 chapters are really sluggish, the plot twist is forced and irrational, and if you played Kiwami 2 first, this game will be a major letdown. If you don't like it, just watch the gameplay on Youtube. Good thing the performance is smooth.
This felt like a slog compared to 0-2. Additionally, the force fed (if you do the substories) Woke Message was downright offensive. MtoF trans masseuse? Female ninja? No thanks.
It should be noted that this game is not bad but it's a reMASTER of a PS3 game unlike the Kiwami games which are reMAKEs of PS2 games.
What that means is you are going to go into this and notice this game is missing a lot of Quality of Life improvements you are gonna miss from previous entries. Particularly with things we take for granted in more modern titles such as the amount of button presses, having to do an unnecessary amount of NPC interaction and non-stackable difficulty achievements. It's very much playable and familiar for those who played the newer titles but you are gonna notice what's missing and go, "Man, I miss this from Yakuza xxx."
The main story is probably the most serious in the series that had potential with a great supporting cast, great villains such as Kanda, Hamazaki and Mine, and a solid amount of intrigue. But it's hamstrung by some weird decisions that didn't really age well such as toning down the comedy aspect of Majima, having a major character "return" but not really, a lot of the new characters have plot threads that go nowhere, and its really hamstrung by this feeling that they were going to retire Kiryu as a main character. (Spoilers: it isn't.) I also struggle to remember most of the side stories which are usually as good as the main narrative.
I do recommend it but I can't say I was inclined to try and complete it compared to other games. It's rather low for me overall in the series.
I don't like the Dash minigame, the control is just not responsive even sometimes going for another path not meant to be. The stamina drains too fast while AI seems like evergreen youth with unlimited stamina. It is lazy coding on developers. Better not putting the minigame if you want to do it half-heartedly. So annoying and needlessly compulsory.
The combat just meh coming from Kiwami 2. I am not saying enemy blocking all the time is bad. It's understandable realistic. However, when enemy down I tried to grab his leg but instead Kiryu grabbing wind and what-not. Also executing Heat needs to wait until the icon appear. That is delayed like couple seconds. A fine example would be that of Final Komaki Heat. The timing was off to say the least if not ruining the enjoyment.
The story is fine, I like the laid-back atmosphere of Okinawa rather than bustling Tokyo.
The writing and characters depth sometimes off however.
