The only clues as to your identity are a tattoo of the number XIII near your collarbone and a locker key. Even though your memory is failing, you discover that you have the reflexes of a highly trained professional fighter. You set off in search of your past, discovering that you played a role in the murder of the President of the United States of America, and revealing the most astounding conspiracy ever hatched in the country's history.

Terrible Remake

This is a terrible remake of a great game. It feels like as if the developers rushed this game out for no real good reason. This baby needs to go back into the oven! It has a terrible intro where some random FBI agent watches a film of the intro. Why? I believe only Satan can answer that question because it's clear he smeared his ball grease all over the decision making process of the dev team. The controls of the game feel fine, except the aiming. The sensitivity settings are all kinds of jank. If you lower the sensitivy so your hipfire option is smoother, it GREATLY reduces the aim down sights sensitivity to a sluggish mess which exponentially hinders the sniping sections. Why don't they have a separate sensitivy slider for aim down sights? Or better yet, how did they f*ck that up? Not to mention the sound glitches out a lot, not that that matters much since a lot of the sounds don't feel very impactful whatsoever, especially when you fire your guns. The AI in this remake range from braindead to omniscient super soldiers. Try sneaking up behind someone and before you can get the take down prompt, they are already turning around to blast you full of holes. Though, to be fair, I did notice this a bit in the original as well, but not to any real frustrating degree. The only saving grace that came with this purchase was that it came with a copy of the original XIII game. Play that instead. While it's 17 years old, it is still vastly superior than this heaping pile of underdeveloped baby batter. Hopefully the devs patch these issues immediately, cuz as it stands now, this XIII Remake is not worth throwing money at.

A sad remake

As most of us here, I spent most of last year waiting in some sort of anticipation of the greatest remake of the year. While that's a slight exaggeration, this game has been delayed for a year, so I was pretty hyped for it. Imagine my disappointment when I loaded it, happy to relive reimagined childhood memories, and got confronted with this: Fortnite meets XIII in silent disco with weird ragdoll effects. Why? Because the sound effects keep cutting out, or playing way to late, the music, when actually there, is way to quiet so I have to crank op the volume.. NPC's just flat out refuse to die and instead dance around for a second in a weird, delayed, death animation. Furthermore there's glitches (NPC's without eyes or with white eyes: XIII meets exorcist! You gotta love them crossovers!) NPC's that keep on talking after dying or not finishing their sentences at all (or even better: not moving their lips at all!) There's clipping issues, raising the temperature of the pc for no apparent reason issues, just crashing to desktop issues, freezing menu issue (don't take too long adjusting the settings!) I seriously wanted to love this game, I really did. But in this state I simply can't. It's too much of a mess to really enjoy..

Needs more polishing

Unfortunately I cannot recommend it in it's current state. Primarly due to the 10000 bugs i've encountered, but with some serious bug fixing it could be enjoyable. Pros : - Same voice as the original (French version) - Same soundtracks as the original - Can be very good looking at times Cons : - Very, very slow gameplay mechanics, everything takes time (reloading, taking and moving around corpses, switching between weapons ...) - Adding the ADS was a very bad idea, you can shoot most of the ennemies down from a mile away - There is a lot, and I mean A LOT of bugs, especially with the sounds, sometimes there's no reloading sounds, sometimes the music stop, the dialogues are interrupting each other, some animations still playing during cutscenes ... And there's this game breaking bug (if you don't know the game) : In the Emerald base Carrington was completely stuck twice (crouching and waiting for something to append), and i had to move him to the next objective by pushing him, that bug made me laugh at least. - The ending was more abrupt than the original I know that you can't compare this remake with something like Resident evil 2 but the pricetag is 40 euros which is waaaaaaay too much, for the same price you can get crash trilogy/spyro/tony hawk's pro skater 1+2. I really hope they can fix this.

The one good thing

I can say about this remake, is that it runs without problems on modern systems. Ok, the second good thing is that the game itself is still as good as it always was (that's why it got two stars). But the remake ... I don't know, I really really really hoped for something better. First I thought my memory must be failing me, that I remembered the original not good enough, so I reinstalled that one ... and the original is just more fun to play. I can't really point out why it is so. Sure, they changed the design style and they somehow forgot to hire someone for the weapon sounds, but that alone can't be it ... Then I had some bugs when using a mounted gatling gun of sorts ... ok, that happens. A guard was not able to shoot me through a breakable window. Another one walked right past me until he reached his point of destination and only then turned around. The death animations look more hillarious than the ones caused by the ray gun in NOLF2, even if the movement keys are set to WASD, you can't use those keys for the menus (I learned that when I was trying a mini gaming keyboard). But these are all things I usually don't care too much about. Still ... it's not as fun to play as the original. I will probably do one playthrough, but really ... this should have been a undiscounted start price of 15€, not 40€. M

Better and worse

It's decent. Haven't played through yet, but after several missions, I can say the following at least. Good: - Gunplay is much improved, greatly so. - Levels look prettier - Controls are more straightforward Eh: - Armor is simplified, which is sad, but not too bad. - Some levels have their gear changed, which is odd, but not good or bad. - Voice acting is re-used, so it's as bad as in the original. - Aiming down sights has been added. I don't care, but I do like the extra accuracy. Worst: - Very, very blurry visuals - The game steals your weapons after every level instead of preserving them. Original game stole your weapons only when it made sense, this one steals them with everything. - Re-used cinematics from the original look hideous, and the intro sequence in the remake is just weird with the framing movie scene, so it makes no sense.
