WHO ARE YOU, REALLY?

XIII is a remake of the cult first-person action game that was initially released in 2003. You play as “XIII”, a man without an identity, in a solo campaign with numerous twists and turns. Inspired by the eponymous graphic novel, the game features a completely reinvented and unique cel-shading design. In XIII, players can also take part in fierce multi-player fights.

The country remains in a state of shock following the assassination of President Sheridan. You wake up, wounded and with amnesia, on a deserted beach on the east coast. The only clues as to your identity are a tattoo of the number XIII near your collarbone and a locker key. Even though your memory is failing, you discover that you have the reflexes of a highly trained professional fighter. You set off in search of your past, discovering that you played a role in the murder of the President of the United States of America, and revealing the most astounding conspiracy ever hatched in the country's history.

Janky Early Access

This game reminds me of early alpha builds, Postal 4 is a good comparison: The controls feel off, aiming is just weird, hit feedback has no punch. Ragdolls fall forcelessly to the ground, even worse: at a lower, laggy framerate. Weapon sounds are weak, animations are stiff. I could continue this, but the main point is: This is sold as a full release, for 40€. This is not only a joke but an insult. Give this game another year and it might become something. At its current state, it does not even feel likle a beta. Want more? - The menu breaks after a few minutes. Escape works, but no more settings, you cannot even quit the game. Happend to me during control changes. - The intro is not redone, it is just an ingame rendering of a random guy watching the original 480p video on a screen. Might be a funny idea, but looking at the rest of the game I guess this is another sign of lazyness, greed or lack of interest in the title. - The graphics might be a subjective thing, but the game ditches the thick black outlines from the original and uses a minimalistic comic look, now it looks more like traditional 3D models with some comic effects. Even here the developers insult XIII's legacy. I will wait a few weeks for a patch, but I doubt you can fix this in any time less than a few months. IF the developers even try to get this done. Again: We are talking about a 40€ full release! I would rate it way better if it was (1) 15€ or less and (2) Early Access. This is what it feels like right now.

I sincerely hope GOG will be refunding

This is the first time in my life I have requested a refund. I LOVE XIII. I played the original on my Xbox years ago, and beat it, oh, six or seven times before I got tired of it. I still have my original copy - it's got the place of honor on the top shelf alongside some of my other favorites. This is a terrible, terrible "remake". The game suffers from choppy framerate, poor controls, crashes, freezes, and bugs. I am very sad to see this. Supposedly there's a Day One patch, but it's only available for Steam / XBox / PlayStation; attempting to check for updates here on GoG did not find anything to apply. I do not know if this is a failure of GoG or of the game. Do not buy this yet.

Just Dont....For Now

I got this on steam and refunded it. It's really not good at all. I was even going in with low expectations but the bugs are honestly really bad. So many weird audio problems. CPU running at 100%. The AI physics are all over the place. Not to mention they are dumb as rocks. Tons of missing features. No online multiplayer. Missing maps. Gog should save their reputation and get this game off their store for the time being.

A messed remaster

This is a huge chance to bring XII to the new generation, but they make a poor remaster. If they don´t fix the lots of bugs in one month i will refound the game, sadly the two stars are only for the name XIII

Disappointed and sad

This game should have been the remake of the year. But its just horrible bugged right now. And I cannot recommend it to any fan of the original game. Pro: I looks exactly like it did back in 2003 but in HD. Contra: - a non functioning anti aliasing option - The Sound is terrible, voices get loud and super quiet for no reason - Aiming feels slow and very unprecise - enormous system requirements and constant fps breaks even on good gaming rigs - animations are super slow, everything takes forever to engage - game breaking bugs like auto saves right before alarms get triggered or a door that wont open anymore after you reload the last checkpoint. Overall the whole game feels like a copy of the old one, but it wasnt enough time to achive the same quality.
