Three additional factions have emerged to strengthen Earth's resistance – the Reapers, Skirmishers and Templars – each with its own unique abilities and contrasting philosophies. These factions provide powerful hero class soldiers to aid in missions and new opportunities for the strategy layer.
The Chosen are the most cunning enemies XCOM has ever faced, each with unique strengths and weaknesses that will be introduced with each new campaign. The Chosen are on the hunt for the Commander and will kidnap, interrogate, and kill XCOM’s soldiers to complete their objective. The Chosen can also invade the strategy layer and ravage XCOM’s global operations. Find and raid the Chosen’s strongholds to defeat the enemy for good.
A deadly new alien known as the Spectre, capable of creating dark copies of XCOM soldiers, has snuck onto the battlefield. Adopt new tactics to counter it as well as the explosive attacks of the ADVENT Purifier and the psionically charged ADVENT Priest.
Engage in tactical missions across new environments from abandoned cities devastated by alien bioweapons during the original invasion, to underground tunnels and xenoformed wilderness regions.
Manage XCOM’s relations with factions and counter The Chosen’s operations from the Avenger. Employ new Resistance Orders to prioritize your personal strategy. Soldiers, scientists, and engineers can now be deployed for Covert Actions that award supplies and boost faction favor if successfully completed.
Soldiers can develop bonds with compatible teammates for new abilities and perks. The SITREP system dynamically adds new modifiers to the tactical layer to make sure every mission provides a unique challenge. Advanced campaign options allow for finer adjustments to game length and difficulty.
Utilize the perfect strategy in new regular one-shot community challenges to claim the top spot on the global leaderboard.
Customize and pose your soldiers, then add filters, text and backgrounds to generate your own unique resistance posters that appear in-game and can be shared with friends.

An addictive bug fest
I can no longer remember how often I have uninstalled this game in a fit of rage, only to re-install it again later. WOTC is technical garbage - on my i5/RTX 3060 the game crashes every few minutes. On my AMD Ryzen 5 4600H notebook, it runs stable, but the sound also occasionally stops and comes back after a while. From a pure technical perspective, WOTC is trash and they never bothered to fix it. Looking at just the game, WOTC's greatest offense is that it pretends that you actually lost the war in XCOM Enemy Within - which is not a good way to make the player feel welcome. It's second offense is that it makes you run a terrorist organization (which is what resistance groups are called when you sit at the other side of the table). It's third offense is that the people that you lead look like hipster punks and the opposing alien force have almost magical superpowers that just feel ridiculous, but almost make the aliens ridiculously overlowered while all you can lead into battle are four punks with peashooters. Add to this the infamous and brutally frustrating and intentionally unfair XCOM RNG and you have the perfect recipe to grigger the aforementioned rage uninstalls. This game is frustrating, stressful and not fun at all. And yet, it's XCOM and for some weird and inexplicable reason it keeps drawing you back in for more frustration and torture, and despite all the frustration, you will invest more hours into it. For some weird reason you want to see if your hipster punks with peashooters can beat the shit out of those overpowered alien superheroes that only exist to humiliate you. For the technical aspects alone, I cannot and will not give the game more than three out of five stars. And I will also say that XCOM EW is the better game with better atmosphere and it also does not have any of the technical issues that WOTC has. If you want to play WOTC, wait for a sale or play its enhanced version on Xbox Series X - it's a much better experience on console.

Interactive movie
This is not xcom game but bad interactive movie about xcom game. I have played 4 hours and there was no point I could decide what to do next. But I already experienced way too many cut scenes and voice overs preventing me to actually play game. Even all the missions I played felt scripted, so it felt more like puzzle than tactical game. Basically any character I have seen talks like "super tough badass" but it feels more like "brain dead". Not mentioning game calling home every time you start it, so block firaxislive.com domain on your DNS or use firewall if you do not like user tracking.

Incredibly obnoxious
I can't go 2 minutes without the game interrupting me with story missions and unskippable cutscenes. I have no idea how anyone can even play this, let alone like it.
