Description
XCOM 2 is the sequel to XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the 2012 award-winning strategy game of the year.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces. XCOM, the planet’s last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now, in XCOM 2, the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, and facing impossible odds, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to ignite a global resistance, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

  • XCOM ON THE RUN: Take command of the Avenger, an alien supply craft converted to XCOM’s mobile headquarters. New open-ended gameplay lets you decide where to guide your strike team, how to grow popular support, and when to combat enemy counter-operations.
  • RECRUIT RESISTANCE FIGHTERS: Five soldier classes, each with its own skill tree, let you create specific soldiers for your tactical plan.
  • TACTICAL GUERRILLA COMBAT: New gameplay systems offer more tactical flexibility in combat. Use concealment to ambush enemy patrols. Loot enemies for precious gear and artifacts. Rescue VIPs and save fallen comrades by carrying them to the extraction point.
  • A NEW BREED OF ENEMY: A diverse cast of enemies from powerful new alien species to the ADVENT, enforcers of the alien regime, offer a distinct tactical challenge.
  • RESEARCH, DEVELOP AND UPGRADE: Configure and build rooms on the Avenger to give XCOM new capabilities on the battlefield. Use your Scientists and Engineers to research, develop and upgrade weapons and armor to fit your preferred tactics.
  • EACH MISSION IS A UNIQUE CHALLENGE: Go on missions around the world, from wildlands to the heart of the alien-controlled megacities, to the depths of alien installations. There are virtually infinite combinations of maps, missions and goals.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen

My strong advice: do not play the normal "base" version. On my system, it would crash every few minutes until I got near the end-game then it would crash two or three minutes into each mission (never on the Avenger screen, though, oddly enough). I finally gave up, not realizing that War of the Chosen is more than a mere DLC and is actually a remake of the entire game. So before giving up entirely, I switched to the WoTC DLC and it was perfectly smooth and never crashed even once! Don't judge me, I used all kinds of cheat codes (because I am addicted to the "God Game" aspect) and it shortened the game considerably, but it is one of the most fun games I have ever played, with some of the best storytelling (if a bit vague in places) as a backdrop. Strongly recommend if you like challenging strategy (i.e., without cheat codes) and a good immersive feeling.

This is not XCOM 2

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is the real game--i.e., this game you see before you on this page has ridiculously long loading times that almost made me uninstall it. I changed to XCOM 2, WAR of the Chosen, and loading is almost instant. This is basically an allegory for everything else comparing this version (the vanilla XCOM 2) to XCOM 2, WAR of the Chosen. You have been warned, and yes, you can be a bit ragey about it.

GOG has a issue with the dialog

It seems that the GOG version of XCOM 2 has a bug which causes the dialog in the game to glitch or move at a speed in which, you are unable to make out anything that is said in the game. I have no idea if GOG has looked into this but it does make the game feel stagnated at times due to not knowing what to do or where you are in the story. Even the cut scenes have this issue.

Good, but Bug

If you like turn base strategy, this is a fun game. But.... It's full of bugs. Not forgiveble bugs. I'm talking about losing hours of progress because of a bug. There is a mode in this game called "Iroman". In this mode, all progress is saved by the game and you can't reedo your actions. It's very intense and fun... until, after 10 hours of gameplay, when you're finally having good results, a bug happen and you lose your sniper. Then, it's not fun anymore. So... Good game, but avoid play Ironman, and know that you will need to load many times.

Loved XCOM 1, this is disappointing

XCOM 2's main problem is it was playtested by the same people that designed the missions -i.e. if you know the enemy's position and the map layout you can just barely outmaneuver them in time (they love timed missions) and get a good result. If you didn't design the map, you have to choose between rushing in the low number of turns you get before mission failure and fail by being overwhelmed by the enemy OR bide your time to avoid getting ambushed/outnumbered and then fail because time ran out. The way to success is to fail the mission several times until you memorize which route to use to reach the objective in time without unnecesary risks. If you play the tutorial mission you get Steely Tears as a second mission -the mission people can't beat. You just can't win this in your first try -and remember, this is your first real mission. After several tries and a change in starting position I managed to beat it, but didn't really have fun -I was acutely aware it was just me memorizing the map and timing. I never lost for having a bad strategy -I lost because I didn't knew the map and the timing to traverse it. Having a SINGLE WINNING PATH with almost no margin for deviation is NOT CHALLENGING, is BAD DESIGN. After beating Steely Tears I got another timed mission where the only way to get to the objective in time is to memorize the position of some nodes you can shoot to get an extra turn each. Doable? Yes, after several tries and if the RNG is on your side and you manage to kill the customary mind controlling sectoid quickly (Steely Tears had that too). I always played in "Veteran" difficulty, the second easiest, meant for people familiar with XCOM like me. There's a mod for XCOM 1 (maybe it's Long War) that makes the game really harder (and different). I tried it and uninstalled it because it always beat me to a pulp -but I still had a LOT of fun with it. In XCOM 2 winning feels worthless because it just means you can memorize a map layout. Don't buy.
