I feel like a Starship Captain

I have tried all the X series. They are known for ‘steep’ learning curves and insanely awkward controls. But the games are amazing. True living sandbox. X4, has the most ‘intuitive’ control structure of all the games in my opinion. But still expect a steep learning curve. I think it took me 10 hours to get ‘comfortable’ with how everything was expected to work. But then I am a dummy. You might pick it up earlier. This is the closest you will ever come to being a starship Captain or Admiral. And then there is the Starwars Mod!

    Ends with Spreadsheet management

Elite...star ciz... and X4 All have their differences. Elite for that one man verse the galaxy, Star ciz the universe.. X4 Starts the same way, One man verse the universe . Yet soon becomes a fleet, then an empire against the galaxy. You start alone then soon hire NPCs to control your ship, or fleet and even build space stations and space factories etc. You can walk ( limited) around stations. Watch ships come and go, From fighter to giant space carrier-battleships you can climb into any ship and fly them. Space is BIG and in X4 it is broken into sectors with 'jump gates' acting as doorways. There are several factions to work with or fight against ,it is all your choice. A massive sandbox! Overall the game is GREAT and apart from the 'NPC s' has amazing graphics and FX. YET! as expanse and success greets your empire the more time you have to spend in the 'U.I' The game remains challenging .. on a SPREADSHEET! and OH! boy is that spreadsheet as massive as the universe you fly in. Menu after menu, hidden within a menu. I stopped playing for a few weeks, when I came back to the game...i was lost, I had to 're-learn' where every menu choice was hidden.

Huge, but a broken economy sim

PROs: + huge space simulation sandbox with hundreds, probably thousands of ships and stations trading between each other, manufacturing and transporting goods, building ships, fighting wars, ... + multiple good story campaigns, that I finished all CONs: - the economy is set-up in a way that it NEEDS war, not to stagnate and decline 1. There is some limit on the total number of ships and stations. 2. All the production is geared towards building ships and stations. 3. If no ships and stations get destroyed, there is no need for the goods that are produced to rebuild them, so the demand side vanishes. - the "peace economical collapse", actually makes the story campaigns a bit conflicting for the player, while the morals might be leading You towards a universe wide peace, that peace kills the economy - very boring late game, where You only get to have some "terraforming" quests, that are only in textual form as huge resource sinks with pretty much no benefits to the player - given how the economy works, the planets and the entire populations of those planets are non-existent, not producing nor consuming anything Lets hope that sometime around X10 there will finally be a universe wide economy simulation sandbox.

    Best Game Ever

If you are willing to put in the effort of learning the game, there is definitely no other game that even comes close, leaning curve is steep but it's definitely worth it. Not for everyone but if you like fantasy of space well go for it.

    Tremendously addictive

I have this game in another platform but I want to give some info for those who want to try it out. The learning curve may seem long, but after spending a few dozen hours in it, and with the community help, it's easy to overcome. The game is mostly for gamers who love space sandboxes, with the ability to do and be whatever you want, but I think it's easy for someone new in this genre to start and get addicted due to the sheer amount of content and the freedom to explore it. The basic formula of Fight, Trade, Build and Explore gets better when Plots and Diplomacy are added to it, allowing for changes to the relations between all the factions and the impact in the universe dynamics. Watching the factions' battle for each sector, intervene through combat or by supplying ships or resources to one or to everyone, allows the player to feel that the actions do have an impact in the enormous universe. Just try it out. Persevere through the initial contact and you won't be disappointed.
