Dark,atmospheric.
Never played the original quake so my opinion is nostalgia-free. For me this is the result a late 90s shooter with Dark Soul's atmospheric ambience combined. Every weapon has unique properties and *feels* powerful. All in all, an amazing game.

It's really good, for "in development"
I'm having a blast with the game. My top suggestion (should anyone care, I doubt they do, but whatever): Audio feedback for when you hit a monster. Make it snarl in pain or something, DOOM did this way back when, and it makes sense. I'm often having some difficulty telling if I'm connecting my shots sometimes so it would be awesome in this game. Otherwise I'm excited for the full release later this year.

Wrath, the feeling back to 1996
Many months ago, i've wanted this game for one reason; i did watch this game on twitch. After playing a bit, for real feels like a mix of Quake + Hexen + Doom, but...people forgot something important, a forgotten game which its Heretic, because of the total enemies, and items. About the save system, seems literally a good idea and unique which that nothing like this has ever been seen in previous games of Id software and 3D Realms. The game is tremendously challenging for those who like and have finished the classic MSDOS games that i mentioned earlier for the FPS. I'll promise to edit my review as i play and finish the game more thoroughly.

Cracking game trapped in dev hell
In a few words - this is everythng Quake 2 should have been. I bought it when it first came out and had loads of fun with it. It's a shame it seems to be stuck in development limbo - after completing the initial hub world, I am quite anxious to see where this journey wiil take me. But so far so good. Good to see all the little improvements to iron out stuff liike monster AI, difficulty spikes etc., though not gonna lie - would like to see a more substantial update. Hurry up devs!
