Worms World Party Remastered

First disappointment: I pre-ordered the game and its release was delayed due to bugs, which was not a good omen. It looks truly fantastic ingame, and it is a pleasure to see the good old Worms with modern graphics. But the fun was not to last. The menus are in low definition. And my game freezes every time a worm falls into the water. Team 17 did a very light and insufficient work. This game is not finished yet, so keep your money until a decent stable release is available, you will certainly get a discount by then.

It is debatable which in the franchise is "the best worms of all time". This is of course highly subjective. However, for me it is Worms World Party! It basically is Armageddon with even more maps, modes and weapons and was the peak before Team17 ruined the franchise with their new 2,5D "fewer of everything" crap. Unfortunately the "normal" old version of the game does not run under Windows 10! With only a minor tweak of the .exe data you could make the game run on Windows7, however that trick does not work on Windows 10. And oh boy was I exicted when I discovered the "remastered" version of this game here on GOG. And oh boy is it a letdown. At least: It works! Well, most of the time. Whenever I want to change the resolution there seems to be a good chance of the hole game simply freezing. Closing it via taskmanager is not possible, so I have to sign out via strg+alt+del. Wait there are new resolutions? Cool! Well, not really. You can go up to an all 1080p resolution, but there was ZERO effort brought into this, as the size of the HUD (like f.e. the weaponscreen) does not adapt to this in any way, meaning the weapon menu is incredibly small and therefore becomes very hard to select. There are also new "remastered sounds", fortunately you can turn them off, as they sound extremely generic and are of overall little quality. In exchange some things did not make it into the version. For example there are (for what ever reason) some pre-set teams missing, that were part of the original version. Also there seems to be another bug: The (quite fun) replays simply don't trigger: There is an option to turn them off, but even when you turn them on, they don't trigger! Even when I dealt about 700 dmg with a ming-vase and killed like 7 worms it did not trigger a replay -> So yeah, it simply does not work. If you want to replay the game on Win10 there does not seem to be another option then buying this version. But shame on the responsible team. It is a horrible lazy port!

The game itself is still fun to play, but to call it a "remastered" edition is pretty much a lie, and so my rating is based entirely on what is provided by the remaster itself. It does nothing but provide a patch to make it work on newer systems and OSs, fix which was pretty much already provided by the community in a better way. HD support: you can run the game in full HD, but the game runs at the desktop resolution, so if you're running at 1440p you will have to downgrade your desktop resolution first. Unacceptable. Network support: When you have to redirect ports on your router and work something out in the registry in 2016 to be able to play online, then you are doing something horribly wrong. Nothing but the minimum was done here, if anything at all.

Very unstable, unfortunately! The game freezes entirely once a worm hits the water. I tried installing and running it on multiple systems, but they all have this exact problem. :(

If you really like this one - just like I do - play the OG game using virtual box or similar software to run an old version of windows (XP) or linux + wine. Don't buy this "remaster", as the refund process will take ages (and you'll defo want to refund).
