The Old Gods are reawakening, clawing their way back into a world that’s spiraling into madness. In hospitals, abandoned classrooms, quiet apartments, and dark forests, strange appearances and unexplainable phenomena test the sanity of residents in Shiokawa, Japan. Is it chaotic retribution, or the machinations of beings beyond our comprehension?
This is WORLD OF HORROR: The end of the world is nigh, and the only solution is to confront the terror reigning over the apocalypse. Navigate this hellish, roguelite reality through turn-based combat and unforgiving choices in this roguelite-style cosmic horror RPG.
Invoke dark rituals, uncover disturbing clues, and solve puzzles across multiple randomized mysteries. Each perplexing case unravels into a series of random encounters with nightmarish figures inspired by the works of horror legends Junji Ito and H.P. Lovecraft.
Unveil the fates of 14 unique playable characters, and choose your path through a pool of 20 dreadful investigations.
Most mysteries harbor multiple endings - for those that survive long enough.
A haunting chiptune soundtrack accentuates the game’s stark 1-bit art style, drawn 100% in MS Paint.
I really like the atmosphere of this old school P&C game. The universe is really well made as well (Lovecraftian).
Music is definitely a plus as well;
Looking for the next update!
I love almost everything I've experienced in the content of this game, but I'm sad to say it's completely ruined for me by a certain random event, called "something truly evil", which entirely disables the ability to save between mysteries (it's not a bug - the game actually explains why you can't save). I encountered this on my first serious run of the game, and for me it's a deal-breaker, as it means I can never casually fire up the game intending to play for just a little while. The experience is ruined by the ever-nagging possibility that this will interrupt my run. While I could force myself to keep playing in this situation and barrel through to the end, that is not fun and defeats the point of playing. I'm then left with the only option of just quitting the game and losing my progress, which is demoralizing.
So after excitedly waiting years for this game's full release, buying it, and still truly wanting to play it, I have to decide to just not play. If this is ever rectified so I'm not prevented from saving my game, I will definitely return to the game and replace this review with the positive one that I want to leave.
