Wizardry 8

This game is rife with so much detail and expertise. Everything about this game is amazing, from the combat system to the voice acting!! Even the cutscenes are terrific. I read somewhere in another review how people are comparing this with Might And Magic (And even preferring that???). But really, it does not compare. This game is just so much better than anything else out there. Please don't play this if you don't want to be spoiled forever, unable to play anything else due to this game's incredible standards!! You've been warned!!!

I played this last year, it had been a free gift from a magazine some years prior. It had been sitting in the "to be played some time in the future" pile of games. It had been ditting there for years, because I was put off, not so much from the dated graphics, but from the minor sci-fi elements. I decided to give it a second chance after the rave reviews I'd been reading all over the internet, old and new. I was on my Xmas holidays and I said to myself "I'll give it 1-2 days of playing, if I'm not hooked by then, it's uninstall time" The thing that initially kept me playing was the frequent level-ups on the early stage of the game (they get less frequent as you gain, more levels, and rightfully so). With six characters on the team (they later become eight) you has a level up every 45min or so. After that, I'd become accustomed to the gameplay mechanics, my eyes got used to the graphics, and it was sheer joy to play for days on end! Never did I get bored, or lost any enthusiasm until the end. What a delight!

As someone else here said sometimes there's to many fights, really the only negative for me. There's a couple of mods which help balance the game out a bit - Christian's mod is a good one. The character selection in this game is awesome, with so many races and classes to choose from. Sure the graphics are dated but they do have a certain charm. The game mechanics does take a bit of understanding and getting used to, but once you do, you won't be able to stop playing! A classic when it comes to gameplay. And to think i didn't even like this game when i first played it and nearly gave up. There's nothing like it and sadly there never will be.

I played this many years ago (when it actually was already a bit dated). However even so I really enjoyed it. The only thing were the very long fights (which I found more annoying in the beginning). Very nice RPG. Lots of very different items you can find use and I believe you could combine together. You have a group of very different characters which make the occasional comments and have different skills. I like RPG's where you can do a bit more than fight/fetch and bring item.

Oh man! This game is key. I just started a new party for Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant and will use Wizardry 8 on GOG as motivation to finally finish a game I've loved, but haven't managed to complete since 1992! Anyway, Wizardry 8 is a fine RPG. Very hard-core. If you're not into hand-holding, and want a challenge, get it!
