The universe is in the throes of violent upheaval and change. Vast and mysterious forces are preparing for the final confrontation. A small group of heroes from distant lands must plunge into the heart of the maelstrom, to uncover long-forgotten secrets, and bring about a new era. Battle your way to victory using your swords, your magic, and your wits. Compete with rivals or align with allies as you struggle to ascend to the Cosmic Circle. Take the battle to the dreaded Dark Savant in Wizardry 8, the phenomenal conclusion to the Dark Savant trilogy, one of the most extensive and challenging stories ever told in classic role-playing games!

Wizardy 8 - the best crunch rpg of all

Wizardy 8 is the greatest CRPG of all time. The story is kind of lame, the number of NPCs laughable and the villain a bit one note. So why is this game the greatest? Because of the rich and magnificient character creation and development system. I have been playing this game for 24 years, ascended and finished the game inumerable times and I still play and get excited about starting a new party of 6 and either focus on optimization of a powermonger build, a silly build that can finish the game despite ther silliness, or anything in between. Becoming intimate with the game and knowing all the tricks and traps is the first level. After that it is creativity and developing your party that allows you to compose rhapsodic melodies of slaughter and magical mayhem. The game will kill you, and rarely love you, but will thrive with death and learn to love the game.

Awwww YEAH!

Oh man! This game is key. I just started a new party for Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant and will use Wizardry 8 on GOG as motivation to finally finish a game I've loved, but haven't managed to complete since 1992! Anyway, Wizardry 8 is a fine RPG. Very hard-core. If you're not into hand-holding, and want a challenge, get it!

I liked the game

It is old time Rp game with 3d Graphics, when it came out it was very cool and thats mostly why i like old games is the memories...the only thing i didnt like about it was if you stayed in one place for to long the amount of creatures became overwhelming ..otherwise it was a blast

disappointed

The party creation is indeed formidable, a lot of options with ensures a high replayability. The tactical turn based combat is principally challenging and fun, but poorly implemented. It scales horribly as you are forced to constantly fight mobs which often come in groups of 2 or 3. In the long run, it gets very repetitive and annoying. The game seems to consist mainly in having to fight spammed groups of enemies on end. Additionally you have to be careful what level your characters are due to scaling of the enemies. If you are new to the game you may invest plenty of time in the beginning levelling your party to find out that they have reached a level which makes it virtually impossible to the continue the game as the game spams constantly enemies at a level impossible to survive. Not what I would call a fun rpg experience. Too time consuming. A shame, since the character creation, the magic system and the combat are really promising.

First I hated it, then fell in love

I played this last year, it had been a free gift from a magazine some years prior. It had been sitting in the "to be played some time in the future" pile of games. It had been ditting there for years, because I was put off, not so much from the dated graphics, but from the minor sci-fi elements. I decided to give it a second chance after the rave reviews I'd been reading all over the internet, old and new. I was on my Xmas holidays and I said to myself "I'll give it 1-2 days of playing, if I'm not hooked by then, it's uninstall time" The thing that initially kept me playing was the frequent level-ups on the early stage of the game (they get less frequent as you gain, more levels, and rightfully so). With six characters on the team (they later become eight) you has a level up every 45min or so. After that, I'd become accustomed to the gameplay mechanics, my eyes got used to the graphics, and it was sheer joy to play for days on end! Never did I get bored, or lost any enthusiasm until the end. What a delight!
