Not a bad game, but technically flawed

This digital board game can be quite absorbing when you get a hang of it. Unfortunately, at least for me, using Windows 10 in 2022 made watching built-in video tutorials impossible, because I could only hear audio and controls of the video player were broken. According to this thread https://www.gog.com/forum/the_witcher_adventure_game/tutorial_video_bug it was working fine on Windows 7, but now you have to watch external videos on YouTube to learn how to play. Installing the game without GOG Galaxy makes impossible to load saved game (or to star a new game for that matter). Fortunately this bug has a solution, you just have to remove Galaxy.dll from the game folder. Dealing with this bug is quite essential (even when you did not plan to save a game), because I also encounter another bug that made me unable perform any action at the start of the turn. Exiting and loading game again helped (and unresolved effect of another player’s card appeared). There are also some mistakes in cards text. For example different amount of clues required to finish side quest is sometimes found at the expanded card and its preview on the bottom panel. Some portions of some cards are not translated into Polish. To be fair I found those flaws playing version 1.2.5a designated as “English”, and version 2.7.0.24 [1.2.5 (gog-24)] designated as “Polish” possibly has better Polish descriptions (at first I installed 2.7.0.24, but after not being able to watch tutorials and load saved game I switched to 1.2.5a hoping that it will help [it did not]). Despite all those shortcomings I recommend The Witcher Adventure Game. I’m not a board game expert so it is hard for me to compare it to other ones, but I got some fun out of it. I also want to mention that it is probably first game in over 10 years that I played, that has hot seat multiplayer. Existence of this feature brought back memories of childhood.

A fun side experience for hardcore fans

I'll state right off the bat: unless you're a hardcore Witcher fan (books & all), this game may not be for you, especially not at full price. I'm not quite a hardcore fan myself (yet), but I definitely wanted to complete my Witcher game collection. As a result, this review is more of a first impressions sort of review. In short, The Witcher Adventure Game is basically a digital adaptation of a Witcher board game and, as a result, lacks the highlights of the series gameplay. However, it CAN be quite fun as a quick distraction. It also includes a multiplayer mode which, I can imagine, would be loads of fun with friends. I haven't played this version, however; just single player. Basically, what you do in this game is run "quests" which are basically a series of objectives for your chosen hero. These "quests" will take your hero across the board and you'll be faced with randomized challenges that you have to overcome with some visually pleasing dice. That's basically the whole gist of it. It's nothing that'll keep you glued to your screen for hours, but it can be a fun little distraction here and there. As far as digital board games go, this one was executed quite well, I just wish they'd re-release it on mobile and give it regular maintenance to get more people playing it. It's one of those sorts of games that I feel like it could have had better success had it come out at a different point in time. Art-wise, it's a gorgeous game for the style of game that it is. The way it tries to replicate quests from the games does evoke a slight sense of adventure, making the "adventure game" moniker a little more appropriate than a marketing ploy. To summarize, if you're a fan of The Witcher, this could be worth buying on sale. The usual $1.50 price tag during sales is completely reasonable and makes for a cool piece to round out your Witcher video game collection. And if anyone is interested in trying the multiplayer, PM me; I haven't played much but I'd love to try MP!

A solid board game

The Witcher: adventure game has a few going on. A well mix of cards and dice mechanics with some good challenge. However, I understand why to some seems a poor game: It requires a fair amount of strategy and decision making in dealing with alliances and in what objective one must focus in order to win. If you have patience, this game is rather rewarding and an all round experience. To be frank, I giving it three stars cuz, put simply, the game is not that accessible or its multiplayer was not all that thought. Still, for both fan of the Witcher saga and board games, this is a big yes! if not.. you could still playing and having tons of fun. Just be aware of its limitation. After all, the greatest trait of a Witcher is patience ( which means sitting around while a monster goes kill an entire village but you still need to drink all of your potions)

Fun Board Game

It's a fun board game. In singleplayer the AI opponents do a competent job. In multiplayer there's little interplay between the characters. A lot of the flavour text works a lot better if people know at least the basics of the Witcher world, but it's not essential.

Enjoyable experience

Quite an enjoyable experience. It's about 50% strategy and 50% luck. Each character has it's own abilities but the game is pretty balanced. Rules are a bit complicated at first, but you should get a big picture after 2-3 rounds and some reading. You can choose each game length, depending on your mood. I wasn't able to play public game, multiplayer lobby is always empty, so if you don't have friends who you will play to, don't expect to play random public matches. I find playing offline (with AI) quite enjoyable either way. There're 37 ingame achievements to get, which also works in Galaxy, but sadly, as of this date, bonus Galaxy achievements still doesn't work. I hope developer will fix them some day.
