Hear a Tale or Spin Your Own

Wildermyth is a character-driven, procedurally-generated tactical RPG. Like the best tabletop roleplaying experiences, Wildermyth gives you choices and answers your every decision with consequences that drive your characters forward.

Lead a band of heroes as they grow from reluctant farmers into unique, legendary fighters. Combat unexpected threats and strange monsters across interactive battlefields. Unravel mysteries and share pensive moments in an ever-new fantasy setting that blends hard truths and sacrifice with humor and personal storytelling.

Where does your myth lead? Come help us uncover it!

  • Reminiscent of tabletop roleplaying, unique heroes are born in unique settings every game. They age, transform, fall in love, disagree, and make harrowing sacrifices.
  • Each hero brings their own organic history and personality with them, but your choices and combat skills are what decide their paths and outcomes.
  • All heroes die someday… but you get to hold on to your favorites. Reintroduce them in the next adventure, and over many lifetimes the myths you make will form your own legendary pantheon.

    An Imaginative Papercraft World
The Yondering Lands, where the game is set, is a richly layered world populated with hand-painted 2D characters and scenery. We’ve paid loving attention to breaking molds and exploring new ideas: no orcs, elves, or goblins here—but watch out for the telepathic insect-dragons and the clockwork undead.

    Extreme Character Depth
Each of your heroes has their own unique generated history, personality, and appearance, and will form relationships with your other heroes. All of these elements change and develop over the course of a playthrough, as characters age, encounter mysteries, and overcome challenges.

    Choices That Matter
Your hero may choose to trust the enigmatic wolf god, leading to a hair-raising change in their appearance and combat abilities. Or they may pursue a romance with a fellow hero, giving each of them a shared buff and more story opportunities. Encounters and events have permanent, character-defining effects, letting you craft the arc of each character.

    A New Approach to Death
Did your favorite character get one-shotted by a tentacled horror-bear? Choose to let a hero "fall back" with a maiming that will lead to some transformative new paths in their legend, or let them go out in a blaze of glory to be remembered for generations to come.

    Deep and Creative Tactical Combat
Combat in Wildermyth emphasizes teamwork and careful positioning, as well as imaginative use of your evolving capabilities and surroundings. Walling and Flanking mechanics provide clear but conflicting incentives, while mystical interfusion lets you remake the battlefield with explosive magic. Multiple difficulty levels mean you can get as intense as you want to.

    Cooperative Multiplayer
In a multiplayer game, you and your friends can each customize and control your own heroes as you play through a campaign. Recommended for up to five players—though in a typical campaign, you start with three heroes and pick up the fourth and fifth along the way. We also support Steam Remote Play.

    Endless Replayability
Pick and choose from a huge bank of combat abilities as your heroes level up in each playthrough, and decide whether you prefer offensive or defensive tactics, brute strength, stealth, or magically flinging fire from a nearby lamp into your enemies' faces. Procedural generation gives you new heroes, new enemies, new story events, and new maps every time you play.

    A Custom Pantheon of Legends
You’ll have the freedom to customize hero appearances, names, histories, and more. As time passes, heroes grow old and may retire, or else might fall in combat—and yes, some will survive all the way to the end. You can add your favorite heroes to a roster of legends and call on them again in later playthroughs. Build your own mythologies and share the awe-inspiring might of your heroes with others.

Wildermyth requires connecting to Epic Online Services for cross-platform multiplayer between Epic Games, GOG and Steam. This can be done anonymously or with an existing Epic Account. Non-crossplay multiplayer is available using direct IP connection. Port forwarding may be required for this option to work.

One of unique kind

I buyed this game on itch.io because it was the only way to get it DRM free at the time. It was long time I was looking for a RPG with use of comic stripes, or even thought of making one for a game jam, and so my expectations for Wildermyth were high, and I was not disappointed. What you will find in this game: * comic strip style dialogs and story sequence * half procedural campaigns (I insist on the plural): you have a main story (fight against the cultist) and side stories with single event (will you pillage this old grave?) or multiple event (a friend of one of your character passed away, the character have to mourn) * a surprising solid writing considering the level of procedurality * re-use of your favorite character from a campaign to another * event which will help feel the character development (a character may get a tree-pet from a tree giant, another get a crow head for laughing at a weird prophet) * an overworld with some taking over by some monster progress * tactical RPG fight (like shadowrun returns or X-Com) * half-random level-up from 3 classes (you have to choose from 3-4 skills at each level up), meaning build from a same class vary * sad moments when a character die, but well integrated death mechanic * the possibility to play with up to 5 player, with each taking decision for the choices related to his character. And it is old school IP-Adress, so no platform limitation, but maybe headache with old school firewall/version. What you will NOT find in this game: * hardcore difficulty from the fight (if you like challenge, don't be afraid to raise the difficulty to max or one lower) * story defined playable character. However they have their own personnality * high tech graphics (the characters don't move hands or legs, but you have to see it as a statical comic picture) * lots of music (I think there is maybe less than 6 tracks in the game) * complexes stories with conspiracy and betrayal twist I personally recommend, but not to anyone.

Unique and beautiful game!

(still in the beginning, may edit this later) Title resumes it all - a deep game, where choices matter and have an influence Life goes on and death is not the end - new generations are born and new recruits appear, each one with their own advantages and perks The combat mode is quite similar to X-COM when it comes to cover, with a nice twist - you can use a Mystic to use parts of it to your advantage, like, using a brazier's flame to cover enemies in fire or a bush to entangle and damage with thorns The special moments are many and very very diverse, like grbbing an elemental beast on battlefield (thus granting elemental properties to your weapon) Higly recommented!!

Fantasy Xcom Legacy Edition

It's actually the comic art style, that attracted my attention. This was the reason, why I bought this game, but there is so much more than meets the eye. I really like, how the world map and events are handled. It makes so much fun to explore the world, chasing a dream, your own hero aging 10 years more, than the others... your archer getting crow wings and all other stuff, that you usually imagine getting in a real life table top. What I did not expect is the tactical battles to be this much fun. I think your party members, especially magicians seem a little overpowered, but their "intefuse" action to interact with level objects delivers various tactics to choose of. I think that after the first campaign, I only saw the tip of the iceberg. Very promising and I am wanting more of it... good thing there is an editor.

Wonderful gem

Catch this game when you can. Little RPG with tacticl interface. The game is broken up in to chapers like a book; and each chapter plays as its own story so you can play a short session. Bit like a rouge lite game; there is an element of random generation of lands and charter abilitys based on pools of choices. Leads to lots of replayability.

Unique mechanics, wonderful storytelling

I own this game via Steam so I'm not familiar with any intricacies of the GOG version (so my review is based on the game itself). I adore this game. From the moment I watched the trailer I was intrigued by the proposed mechanics. The level of customization makes it feel like you could play this a thousand times with a different story each time. It's sad because the characters have a finite lifespan but I think that serves to add gravitas to whatever mythos you create for your heroes. I would definitely recommend this game on the merit of its storytelling capabilities alone; however, the battle mechanics are fun and interesting too. Weapons can be customized and there is a lot of mixing and matching. This game is a delight. Congratulations to the Worldwalker clan for creating such a wonderful game.
