Whispers of a Machine

This is a solid combination when it comes to a detective adventure game. The post-apocalyptic setting is perfect. The dialogue and voice acting is well done and kept me wondering what's next. I'm satisfied after playing it for an hour. I recommend this if you like a detective adventure game with compelling dialogues and puzzle placement. Kathy Rain was a really enjoyable adventure. And here Clifftop takes it up another notch. The improvement in character dialogue is noticeable thanks to the work of Dave Gilbert. I didn't think it missed the mark in KR, but here we move from really good, to pretty great. I feel like compared to Kathy this game throws in a few extra head scratchers. Usually good detective work gets you through, but I was pretty stumped by a few obtuse things I'm not sure I would have ever worked out myself (thank you guide writers). Aside from those, good or bad as you may find them, this is again the sort of adventure game that is about putting pieces of information together in ways that make sense. There are also QOL changes Clifftop have made to the game that make things easier; faster area transisitions, better item descriptions, etc. And others have stated, it's a yes. This is exactly the type of adventure game I like, and Clifftop are making the best ones these days.

Just finished the game and I'm delighted, I have played almost anything regarding Sc-fi and adventure that is worth playing and this was a pleasant surprise, as I'm seeking something new constantly. The game have very nice graphics, excellent story, it is smooth playable, nice logical puzzles and they go nice with the story it is enjoyable to follow everything. There is branching based on which style of personality you chose to persuade, so you can replay the game again after you finish and choose different style, and you will have to solve the same puzzles in a different way. Also there are different endings. Voice acting is also excellent, and it is really good brushed game in all areas. In wait for Technobabylon 2 this game can make waiting easier :-)

Great story and dialogue, puzzles generally lean towards fairly easy to pretty difficult (only because the harder puzzles in the game require being conscientious of information easy to forget or gloss over). Implementation of game mechanics via Vera's implants was a nice feature that added to the immersion but I really would have liked to have seen these mechanics with greater impact to how the game pans out. It gets a pass either way because I felt that it was adequate enough to have been there to begin. It's a shame this game is so short; the characters are interesting and the overall premise of the game was executed pretty well and I would have loved to have spent more time immersed in it. In a way the game also gets away with leaving out some of these details by being a point of interest to analyze and ponder after finishing the game, and with that in mind the game certainly seems to have a level of self awareness which could only mean the developers knew they could only fit so much into a low budget indie game. The result is a game that's very straightforward, but also very much worth your time and $15.

Very nice to see Point and Click games getting a much needed revamp. I enjoyed this game, great story (which is something I apricate as I get older), and fun logic puzzles that really go well with the story. Old gamer approved.
