Asymmetric Then there's the lore. West of Loathing takes place after a major magical disaster: the Day the Cows Came Home. Portals to hell turned the cows demonic, and great darkness spread across the West. West of Loathing elicits this powerful emotional connection with stick figures. It bonds you to its world with nothing more than doodling and dialogue. There's a pretty good turn-based adventure game there, under the hood, but West of Loathing's many strengths are all personal: connections made between developer and player when you both laugh at the same time. Absurdism aside, there's something fundamentally human and direct baked into the game's whole design from aesthetic to script. On top of it, you can dunk your hand into a spittoon of caustic toxins to pull out an enchanted sword. That's the kind of player choice I didn't even know I wanted in a Western RPG.

Fun game, nearly perfect

It's funny, it's what it says on the tin. A lot of reading, so keep that in mind. There are some quests that can be ruined by experimenting, but if you read all the clues carefully, you'll get them. It took me a weekend in easy mode, but you could probably complete it in a day if you wanted to. The only reason why I am not giving it five starts is because there is no in-game way to keep track of quests. There should be either a notebook or a quest journal, it would make things so much more convenient and result in less hunting through walkthroughs for completists. It's worth exploring everything, though, and returning to places you've been before when you have new fun gear. ;)

BEST BIT OF FUN FROM A GAME FOR A LONG TIME. mostly wandered around the desert looking for random encounters and was laughing at just about every one! 10/10

Best game ever

Now I actually own this game on steam, but at a sale I will get it for gog too (whish it was on gog earlier). Because that game is that amazing!. It just has a great humor, goog balancing. A ton of story and most of it more or less optional. I say more or less because you don't really want to miss it. Okay maybe not a good review but just buy it, it is great. I recommend this full price to everyone!.

Starts off strong...

The level scaling enemies that start appearing around when you get to the middle of the world map make everything fall apart and ruin the game however. I HATE being punished for leveling up in rpg's! The point to leveling up is to get stronger, NOT feeling like you are getting weaker! Whatever talent these idiots had back in their kingdom of loathing days is LONG gone.
