Great mix of fantasy and western
A great immersive sim in a world like Wild Wild West but a lot darker

Good immersive sim, terrible controls
The atmosphere and the situations you face are very good, and as you can see in every good immersive sim, you have tons of possibilities. However, the controls are one of the most horrible things I've ever played in a 3D game. Seriously, the controls seem a strange mix of an old PlayStation One game with 8th gen components if you play Weird West with a controller. The horrible controls force you to face all the situations with enemies stealthily because of it's very difficult to fight against them, so the immersive sim experience falls apart and it becomes a pure stealth game. After overcoming the first story, I uninstalled the game. I bought this game because Prey is my favorite PC after Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2, but it seems that Weird West was too big as a project for the development team, that it was composed by some people who worked in Prey from Arkane Studios.

An excellent immersive sim adventure
By the time of writing I have only just finished the story of the first playable character, which took me about 13-14 hours to do. If you beeline for the main story missions, you can knock a few hours off from there. I love the feel of the world, I love the mix of the supernatural and wild west themes, I love the mix of wild west and horror fantasy in the visual design, I love the sound design from the music to the sound effects, and I very much enjoy the way you travel across the world. I love that you often have numerous ways of solving situations, and thus far they've all felt viable. Combat is chaotic which means making a tactical choice in when, how and if you enter it meaningful. Though sometimes having your plan fail leads to the most fun combat scenarios - or into a cascading effect of half of the enemy's number taking each other out (rare but it did happen and was hilarious when it did). The story thus far has a good blend of mystery and character motivation, which compells me to both explore and roleplay. The only things keeping me from giving the game 5 stars is that it could've used a bit more polish. For example, the NPC pathfinding occasionally leads to them getting stuck in each other or the environment. This mostly happens in towns and non-combat areas, so it doesn't really affect gameplay but does take you out of the world. Overall, a very fun and unique title you'll get many hours out of if you're into the setting! I got it on sale (which it enters frequently) and got more than my money's worth already, and I've only explored 1/5 of the story and setting.
