The Dwarven stars are slowly dying -- putting the race at the edge of extinction. Deliverance is poised upon three Dwarven astronauts who are sent on an expedition to find a new star in the depths of the Endless Stone. Take control of Forcer, Smashfist, and Shadow as they explore the unknown territories of the stone universe while meeting new civilizations and ancient monsters from the deep layers of space.
We Are The Dwarves is an action-based tactical adventure with active pause (extreme slowdown of time) placing you in control of three Dwarven astronauts. Forcer is capable of ranged destruction, and timely set-up exectution. Smashfist, a brute at heart, gets up close and personal with rage worth avoiding. Shadow stays just where you'd expect him to, launching deadly successive assassinations and precision archery from afar. As a trio, combine each dwarfs attack styles into orchestrated destruction against your foe.
this game is tedious buggy and unplayable, I don't know how anyone can enjoy this garbage but I don't want my money funding it, not a single cent that's for sure, good thing i got it so cheap, the combat system is half assed, the save points bug out etc, its just not worth anything, within minutes ive already found a gamebreaking bug (inaccessible save point), i just cant be bothered investing my time into this kind of rubbish when theres hundreds of better games to play
If viewed as art. then this work is next to perfect. The artwork of the game is mostly gorgeous, especially the cutscenes. The atmospheric music is also a nice touch. The voiceacting is horrific, but that is understandable for a low-budget game like this one.
The combat sometimes is more of a logic-based encounter, then standard button smashing.
My biggest, most glaring problem with this game is the saving system. It doesn't work. I guess it is a bug, but a horrendous one. For me, the game doesn't save at the in-game savepoints. This way, I can lose sometimes tens of minutes of progress, what can be really anoying for a game, that doesn't have a special death mechanic.
If this would be resolved, I would consider the game to be a strong 4, instead of the 3 I currently feel it is.
After reading all the negative comments, I thought that this game would be very mediocre. We are the Dwarves has a lot of flaws (minor bugs that occasionally affect the gameplay and could be a little bit frustrating at times) but overall this is a decent game that takes place in a very unique world. It takes some time to get used to the user interface but once you feel comfortable with it you are good to rock and roll.
Also, the voice acting is absolutely awful, and the ending really sucks! A good ★★★!
As probably everyone else (seeing how this game is present in pretty much every sale), I got this for less than a dollar and my expectations were extremely low. I finally got around to playing the game after about 2 years it has been in my library and I have to say, I somewhat enjoyed my playthrough.
Using the abilities of your dwarves correctly was a lot of fun. You eventually get 3 dwarves. One is a ranged guy with good damage and support for the other 2 dwarves. Second is a melee guy that likes to rage, deal lot of damage and control enemies and 3rd is a stealth guy, able to teleport between hiding spots, stealth killing and the usual "stealthy stuff". Because you have 3 characters, there is a tactical pause during which you can aim/issue commands.
Normal combat is what I liked the most. You mainly play a positioning/aggro management game. Using your abilities to the best effect, controlling enemies, blowing them up with area of effect abilities or picking the off one by one with a sniper bow. Your choice. But there are several forced stealth sections in the game which can get somewhat annoying. Many of which are instant failure if you get detected and require you to perfectly execute your actions, like timing your kills or killing 2 targets within an extremely tight time window.
You find runes for upgrading the abilities of your dwarves throughout the game. These are pretty crucial because in the later stages of the game, it would be impossibly hard without some upgrades of abilities (especially the stealth guy). There are even some secrets that require a specific ability from the tree.
To sum it up, wait for any sale (this game is for -95% pretty much all the time) and then it's well worth the dollar. It should be noted though, that the game is unfinished and ends after 2 chapters with a cliffhanger. It will probably never get finished so keep that in mind. With all that said, I'm giving this a 6/10. Frankly, I have played much worse games than this.
Got it for 1$, and it was decent for that. Stay away from its 20$ price!
Barely functional, this game is an incomplete mess of wasted potential.
Frequent audio issues, pathfinding issues, horrible voice acting, abrupt game overs and soundless cutscenes will accompany your experience of guiding your 3 space-dwarves through challenges that range from "pretty easy" to "frustrating".
You can see they tried though: every space dwarf has its array of skills that make this game's concept of gameplay somewhat similar to Dawn of War II, with a twist on knocking enemies off ledges.
Too bad for the rest of the game...
