Even Better
Just finished playing this again. This re-release is just as good as it's ever been. The improved portraits are a treat.

A Legend
I still remember picking the C64 version of this up back in the late 80s. Countless memorable evenings (and weekends) ensued as my Desert Rangers explored and left their mark on the Wasteland. It's a strong example of an early open-world, where you don't have to play through areas in a particular order, outside a few plot specific points. If you can get past the old school graphics, lack of music (or for that matter, sound), and largely keyboard driven interface, there's a fun adventure that awaits.

Childhood Memories
I loved this game as a child and now as an adult I have been able to beat the game i thought was unbeatable. This had to be one of the most in depth games in its time and still holds up today.

Not great, not terrible
Let's be honest: I bought this after playing Fallout 1 (the whole) and 2 (not even middle game). This game is one of the most unrewarding experiences ever to say the least, I had to orchestrate a lot by making some characters "evade" in order for someone to get the final exp points, and that is annoying because you want your characters to grow and this game is anti-development. After 13 hours of gameplay I said enough. The inclusion of the ok but not great soundtrack made my gameplay NOT better, because it suffers the Morrowind problem with the random selection, like church music in Highpool when it should be sounding in Needles' Temple, and that makes me wish to turn it off after 40 minutes playing. This is fixed in the Remastered version, which makes the experience more immersive. It shocks me that I did not have a proper explanation about how the same sytem works, which I believe is more dangerous than going to Las Vegas at Lv 1. No words here, this is lazy design that turned my gameplay into a miserable one becasuse I did not understand how it worked. Again, this is fixed in the Remastered with its own save list system. But that does not mean I like the Remaster better. 3 stars and I am very kind.

This was one of my favorite games from my 20's. I used to spend hours playing this on a Commodore 64. Playing on my PC is much nicer.
