While echoes of the original release pacing problems remain, the Director's Cut does much to add variety to the experience with new features such as perks, quirks, and precision aiming. It's likely not enough to warrant a replay if you've already finished it, but if this is your first foray into inXile's bleak vision of the future, this is the best place to start off.

Despite some gameplay flaws, Wasteland 2 gets a lot of things right for the genre. Fans of isometric, hardcore RPGs will find a detailed world to explore in the title. inXile Entertainment provides deep attention to detail on an awe-inspiring level. Creation of independent currencies and social hierarchies in the game create a living environment. Fully fleshed-out NPCs with voice-overs add to the detail of the wastes and make characters more than just placeholders. Interacting with the environment may lead to new clues and options for gameplay. Wasteland 2 is full of player choice and replayability that will keep players busy for a while. With gameplay easily exceeding 80 hours of content, Wasteland 2 is not for the faint of heart. Those who appreciate challenging experiences and detailed world-building will find Wasteland 2: Director's Cut an important installment in their RPG library.

Exactly what I was looking for

Back in the day, I played and replayed the original Wasteland several times. When I heard they were making a sequel (an actual sequel), I was ecstatic. Finally, a few days ago, I was able to purchase it. I've just gotten to the top of Highpool with 4 of the pre-gen characters and I have to say I'm impressed. I've only had one issue. My GeForce GT210 1GB and Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz (4 GB DDR2) just doesn't cut it. If I turn the game down to "Fast", I can play it, but it's sluggish (everything including the UI). I have the patience and I spent a couple of hours playing and learning it. I was having fun. Yesterday a co-worker lent me a Zotac GTX 760 with 2GB of RAM (ZT-70401-10P). Wow! What a difference a $250 graphics card makes, but then it should. With that video card, in the same machine, I turned it up to "Beautiful" and it was flawless. Now that I've returned the card, I'm going back to slow mode. But then again, the graphics are not what make this game. It's all about the atmosphere and tactics. The main reason I wrote this review is for the people who have complained about the graphics and suggested that a GPU upgrade wouldn't make a difference. You really need a good video card for this one if you want all of the fancy graphics and that's where you should put your money. The minimum processor and some DDR2 RAM is more than sufficient. Oh, and I also want to thank GOG for adding Linux games to their wares. I cannot stress this enough. Thank you. nemolomen

Decent foundation for future games

I was glad to see this kept the turnbased gameply instead of switching to realtime with pause or something else altogether. The combat could use some refinement though. Things like cover could be made clearer. A little more focus could be given to the character progression as it is a little difficult to figure out what I should be training in and what will be useful in the future. The characters themselves could really use some work. Besudes the fact that character customization in this is pretty rough and more than a bit ugly, I really mean on the personality and story side of characters. I just wasn't getting attached to anyone. Which I suppose comes from the fact that you build your own party and it takes forever to get new recruits with an inkling of personality. The main story was never getting that interesting from what I saw, though the setting itself wasn't that bad (though I'm not big on the midwestern cowboy motif). I did like the idea of killer mutant plants overrunning a settlement. But I really wasn't given much of a reason to care about what was happening there. There also didn't seem like there was much concequence to my actions. Helping one town out instead of the other leading that one to get wiped out really isn't my fault and to me seems like to rather pointless form of concequense. The inital artwork I see for this game everywhere is of a group of characters wandering through abandonned streets overrun by plantlife. Indeed, in the title screen shows a giant spider robot hanging out in a city. This was something I never encountered. Most everything I encountered was dirt roads, settlements of shacks, run down warehouses, or a bunker that was nearly empty except for the soldiers occupying it. I guess people just trying to live in this universe don't exist unless they are already dead on a mission you have yet to complete. Anyway, theres enough there to keep me interested in the series. I look forward to Wasteland 3.

Good game

Certainly buy during a sale but think twice if you want to get it at full price because even though it is a good RPG it has some flaws which make it irritating at times, usually solving a problems is strictly linear in some cases which means if you don't complete all requirements, (which are not explicitly stated) you would end up with a bad result. It does have some replay value due to the way in which you get to use your skills differently in a all other situations and the environment, voice acting were done really well. For me this game gives me the feeling of playing an RPG in a western setting, with desert, us being the law and stuff defending civilians from bandits, their own squabbles, etc. so I gave it 5 stars.

This isn't the fallout team...

People saying the "fallout team" made this. No, it's Brian Fargo, the guy who PRODUCED the first. He didn't create the tactical gameplay, quests or stories from the original games... That's why none of them have any quality in his efforts.. The original fallout team is scattered throughout various developers. Most of them were at obsidian, but now chris avelone or w/e. / the lead designer of NV has left, and probably others, haven't payed that much attention (hence why Outer worlds by obsidian was also lacking) so in the end looks like that team will never be whole again. I'll never play any wasteland game aside from the first, what's the point? You still get two stars for your early work sir!! Most of the saps here don't even appreciate it so kudos to you lol
