While echoes of the original release pacing problems remain, the Director's Cut does much to add variety to the experience with new features such as perks, quirks, and precision aiming. It's likely not enough to warrant a replay if you've already finished it, but if this is your first foray into inXile's bleak vision of the future, this is the best place to start off.

Despite some gameplay flaws, Wasteland 2 gets a lot of things right for the genre. Fans of isometric, hardcore RPGs will find a detailed world to explore in the title. inXile Entertainment provides deep attention to detail on an awe-inspiring level. Creation of independent currencies and social hierarchies in the game create a living environment. Fully fleshed-out NPCs with voice-overs add to the detail of the wastes and make characters more than just placeholders. Interacting with the environment may lead to new clues and options for gameplay. Wasteland 2 is full of player choice and replayability that will keep players busy for a while. With gameplay easily exceeding 80 hours of content, Wasteland 2 is not for the faint of heart. Those who appreciate challenging experiences and detailed world-building will find Wasteland 2: Director's Cut an important installment in their RPG library.

I waited 15 years for Fallout 3...

...and Brian Fargo and company finally gave it to me! It did not disappoint. Most of the people that didn't like it probably gave up in Arizona, which I'll admit the first half can become a drag sometimes. But then you push through that one stale part to get through the Mushroom Cult's canyon to continue the story elsewhere and put this way I already beat the game twice. I sometimes wished I could do ironman mode but tbh losing your highly specialized team mates can be completely crippling by late game. Really I could write a huge review but I won't and don't need to. Wasteland 2 is Fallout 3. It took me fifteen years to finally get a new Fallout game. Anyone playing the Bethesda games alone has never played Fallout, those are basically Skyrim with laser gun mods. This is the true Fallout experience, and it remains one of my top 20 or 30 games of all time. Just get it. If you have ever played Fallout 1 or Fallout 2, or you tried to but couldn't get past the QoL issues of a mid-1990s game, get this. You won't be disappointed. If ever you begin to feel stuck, trust me, push through until the map turns from brown to green. It's one of the most amazing and memorable crpg experiences I've had in decades.

My favorite game right now

I've played 20+ hours and so far the game has been loads of fun. Contrary to some other people, I like the story and really enjoy the gameplay and graphics. I love leveling up my characters, getting new gear and battling enemies. Combat in general is quite enjoyable to me. I cherish the feeling of getting more XP and plotting out which skills I will level next and how they will benefit my party. I am amused by the wide variety of skills available and actually found myself enjoying having separate lock picking, hacking, and safe cracking skills, as well as various melee and ranged weapons options. There are so many options that make me think strategically about what I want for my group. I love the updated graphics. The camera is not sluggish at all for me. Neither is the UI. I have a high-end GTX 580 (lots of modern GPUs are probably on par with it or better nowadays). On my Dell U2312HM (IPS) monitor things aren't hard to spot or see, especially once you get used to the graphics and UI which doesn't take too long. I haven't had this much fun with any game for a while. The simple fact that it is a CRPG totally makes the game for me. The only (small) gripe I have with it thus far is the limited selection of pre-made character portrait images. I'll give it some more hours and update this review... the first few missions have been incredibly fun.

Not a 'great' game

I was neither a player of the first Wasteland nor Fallout series, and one this I noticed is that the game is pretty noob-unfriendly. There were no tutorial nor in-game instructions (aside from several icons on the right of the screen that don't really help. Logs looks clumsy and rarely provide any useful information. Ammunition and medical supplies are scarce as hell (witch actually make sense for an post-nuclear-wars setting), and enemies are either very nimble or tough to kill. Random encounter on the world map sometimes spawns enemies way stronger than the rangers, forcing players to load a save. The storyline I've seen so far is frustrating, watching the player's super noobie team running around as if they are all the manpower Desert Ranger has on hand. I gave up on this game after several hour of gameplay and felt regret buying it. Maybe it doesn't suit my taste, or it just doesn't really worth the prise.

so so; quest bugs galore; needs work

It was mostly fun. Overall the game felt a lot like they had big intentions but weren't able to follow through. The story line was so so and was really hurt by all the late game quest bugs. The story really fell apart at times due to this. In part I just had to keep in mind what the intended story line was and ignore some of the discrepancies. There wasn't anything I found particularly new or interesting in the story or setting. Though that's not really a problem but it also means the game left a much weaker impression than it could have. And the story just wasn't all that compelling to me. In general it was fun and is a decent filler if you're craving this style of game. The style being post-apocalyptic and/or the mostly overhead RPG/action/tactical combat game. Overall there weren't many major engine type bugs. There were a few annoyances about the engine setup. In particular the lack of keys for many options including moving the selected character. Also there is no real control over the camera angle. You can rotate the camera around the main character, but the angle is locked in to the zoom and there is no way to change that. The biggest problem are all the quest bugs. There far too many of them, and they really broke immersion. Especially in the later half of the game. Hollywood in particular was really bad for quest bugs. At least none of them broke the main quest line. So far I've played it once, and I don't know that I will replay it. Though I probably will but with hefty character edits to easily skip over a lot of the buggier parts or to be able to skip content. I finished the game and hit alt-F4 to get out of it without bothering to read the epilogs for each of the locations. That's a first for me for this style of game. There were 2 reasons, first was the story just wasn't interesting enough for me to really care. And the ending route I took resulted in a pointless race against the clock just to find a f***ing room you've never been to before.

I love this game

I got it for free on GOG and that is one of the best things that ever happened to me. I love the gameplay as it encourages to carefully plan but also forgives small mistakes. The story made me feel helpless and lost but still made me care and never demotivated me. And finally the credits song by MIRACLE OF SOUND... Gave me goosebumps.
