WARNO includes FREE Reinforcement Packs #1-11.

Are you ready to take command?

Deploy into an authentic, expansive, and meticulously researched Cold War real-time strategy game with WARNO. As the spiritual successor to the acclaimed Wargame series, WARNO is the ultimate next-gen World War III battle simulator.

Two years have passed since Gorbachev’s overthrow in a coup by hardline communists, and now, in the dark summer days of 1989, the Cold War finally turns hot. The armies of NATO and Warsaw Pact have deployed in a divided and tense Germany. Conflict is imminent. The only thing left is to wait for the inevitable Warning Order that will begin it all. War is coming home, commanders…

WARNO - Warning Order - lets you command your customized battlegroup and lead hundreds of Cold War-era units to victory on dynamic, tactical battlefields. Choose between the arsenals of NATO or the Warsaw Pact, and fight across a multitude of solo and online modes against challenging AI or human opponents in massive 10v10 battles. Show your mettle as a strategic commander in the turn-based Army General campaigns depicting a devastating, techno-thrilling World War III in Western Europe.

Take Command of Your Battlegroup

  • The Cold War-era armed forces of six nations - aligned to NATO or Warsaw Pact - can be led into a hyper-detailed World War III: U.S., West Germany, United Kingdom, and France square off against the Soviet Union and East Germany. From conscripts and main battle tanks to mobile SAM systems, self-propelled artillery, scout helicopters, strike aircraft, and fast interceptors, each WARNO nation has its unique arsenal of vehicles, planes, and soldiers.
  • More than 1000 different military units are featured, such as the mighty M1A1 Abrams, the British MCV-80 Warrior, French Gazelle scout helicopters, German Leopard tanks, Spetsnaz special forces, SU-25 Frogfoot, the East German KPz T-55AM2 or Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunships. In the Armory, each unit can be inspected and compared in detail.
  • An array of famous military formations and brigades, each with their unique identity, act as the parent division of your personal battlegroup. Use the units available, choose your economy of forces, and customize your troops in WARNO’s enhanced battlegroup building system.

A New Dimension to War

  • Experience 5 massive turn-based strategic Army General campaigns centered on the NATO’s CENTAG and Warsaw Pact’s Central Group of Forces area of responsibility in 1989, placing you right in the heart of the war near the infamous Fulda Gap.
  • The Army General campaigns let you command hundreds of units and military formations, down to the platoon level, including the U.S. 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and 3rd Armored Division, West German 5. Panzerdivision, Soviet 79th Guards Tank Division and 27th Guards Motor Rifle Division, and the East German 7. Panzerdivision.
  • 8 scripted Operations will allow you to undertake daring tactical combat missions that tell captivating stories of an all-too-real conflict.

Immerse Yourself

  • Witness an ever-evolving battlefield that never looked more beautiful, from the detailed environments to the brutal destruction unleashed. The latest incarnation of Eugen’s proprietary engine simulates modern land and air combat in Western Europe to the fullest extent.
  • The maps are rich with tactical options and objectives, from hills, small villages, dense forests, meandering rivers, bridges, and industrial zones to be captured. Be wary of ambushes or outflanking maneuvers as you continuously advance the dynamic frontline that contributes to a side’s victory or defeat.
  • Lead your chosen battlegroup into battle as an expert commander, taking advantage of all the available tactical tools. Combat in WARNO is an all-encompassing contest of smarts, tactics, and mastery of your units.

Combat Evolved

  • Take to war across a wide variety of game modes, including stand-alone Skirmish missions playable in solo, cooperative, or multiplayer.
  • Battle against an enhanced and challenging AI or pit your tactical prowess against other human players, in intense ranked 1v1, 2v2 to 4v4 team matches to all-encompassing 10v10 battles.
  • Take advantage of a host of quality-of-life enhancements catering to new players and veterans of Eugen Systems’ previous titles. This includes issuing commands during pre-combat deployment, Rules of Engagements, AI-assisted Smart Orders, and much more.

Developed and published by Eugen Systems.

Great for non-RTS players too!

First, let it be said that I'd have bought this here instead of on Steam if it was available sooner and it's a little too pricey to buy twice. Shame, I'd rather have it on GOG. Now to the review, which is going to be specifically written for people like me, rather than an average RTS fan. I'm not a good RTS player. I have a single-track mind and taking care of an entire battlefield is just too much for me. There's an easy remedy to this if you have friends: leave a half of the battlefield to someone else! Of course, the game still has to provide for this and not every RTS does. WARNO does it well. Like its predecessors in the Wargame series, the game allows you to play on maps designed for a certain number of players, but doesn't limit you to that number. The number of units available to a side remains unchanged. You get to choose which player gets which units and in the campaign mode you can even tune the distribution of spawn points between players, which means you can let your more experienced friend have more control and take only as much as you can handle. So you get fewer units, but it doesn't mean your friend will have all the fun while you get bored moving one unit. The biggest strength of this game (and those it builds upon) is in the level of micromanagement possible with its units. You can control a single tank, a couple of recon dudes and a mortar and have all the fun in the world, because of the depth of the relations between different roles of units and their abilities. GOG doesn't allow reviews long enough to cover this properly, but the fact that this game allows much fun to be had with few units is evidenced by the popularity of the so called tactical games, 10v10 matches on tiny 1v1 maps. Additionally, the campaigns (playable in coop) are engaging and provide meaningful gameplay on the strategic level as well. Bottom line: if you have someone to play it with, it's well worth its full price, because you'll get hundreds of hours out of it.

WARNING: ALL DLC NOT IN EXPANSION PASS

Eugen is being greedy and playing with semantics to not include all DLC in the EXPANSION PASS. And here's the problem with playing with semantics like that: Technically they could just take 75% of the Post-Day 1 content and put it in a DLC not included in the "Gold edition expansion PASS Deluxe" --- which is industry standard language for all-post day 1 content (as the ever-lowering steam review score of the Warno Expansion Pack attests). The DLCs are described in very general terms, so we have to trust Eugen to act in good faith when we shell out our money in advance to buy software that isn't even created yet. It's completely arbitrary what units/maps/features they put in which DLC, even more so in a hypothetical conflict. There is no reason why the two divisions and their units just released couldn't have been a part of SOUTHHAG.... Like, NONE, zero. And while we're on the subject, even if we accept their official explanation, it doesn't look good that Eugen is putting out extra paid DLC that's not a part of the expansion pack before they even finished programming what people have already paid for. But the fact is, no one buys an expansion pack or a season pass or a gold edition or a ultimate edition or a complete edition thinking; "Oh, well, there's obviously going to be a lot of DLC content to buy after the content in the package." If they don't think an "expansion pack" described as the "gold edition" and the "ultimate collection" of DLCs DOESN'T sound like all DLCs, they are lying to themselves and to us. And more importantly, they are using up the trust and good will of their customers: go over to the store page and watch the review score drop in real-time. I probably own about 2k games between Steam, GOG and Epic and if possible, I almost always buy the edition with all DLCs included. In all those "Gold Editions", "Expansion Packs" and "Ultimate Collections" etc., I have never once experienced what Eugen did here. It's not okay.

Crashing. Cheating/Stupid AI.

Been trying to play this for a couple days now. But I can't. When the game isn't crashing on startup, it's crashing during a game. Did all the training missions and got to play some rounds in Skirmish. The AI cheats constantly. If I load up heavy on infantry at the start, they load up heavy on anti-inf helicopters and napalm. If I load up on tanks, they load up on anti-tank. If I load up on helicopters, they load up on AA. It's pathetic. I have played RTS games since C&C1 and strive for no/min losses in everything I do. Just off what little I have seen, it's nearly impossible to do that in this game. Units refuse to backup or follow any commands besides switching targets once engaged. This makes it easy for the AI to snipe your helicopters and tanks. Helicopters come with no smoke or flares. Helicopters, especially Apaches, refuse to use rockets and missles unless they are WAY TOO CLOSE. Tanks have smoke but only have 1 salvo, which is flat out stupid. And anti-tank infanty takes WAY TOO LONG to get a rocket off. And that's just what I've seen in 2 days. I'm gonna go watch some youtube videos about it and see what it takes to anti-cheat this AI in this game, or if there are any mods for it. It's really sad that you have to cheat players via giving the AI cheat to have a fighting chance, always the poor mans way of making "good" AI. Just like Warhammer and Stellaris, if you have give your AI cheats, you didn't make a good AI. I have no desire to play multiplayer in this game and sad that there is basically no campaign, which the trailers and stuff imply there is some form of story going on, but there isn't. It's really just a multiplayer template system like so many other games these days. On steam you would have to make a login and everything to even run this game and they collect data off your computer. Which is already making me want to refund it. I'm already a few more crashes and getting sniped by invisable AA or TOW missles from refunding.

A good wargame but...

even though I played all the tutorial missions I don't know how to command a supply truck to resupply another unit as soon as it spawns/leaves base. This result in a lot of micro. So does the fact, that I can't define "fire at will" as the default behavior for my artillery.
