Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

So as someone who isn't a WH40K fan, I heard of this game and opted to give it a shot... I have mixed feelings towards this game, on one hand it's a competent (If simple) shooter/hack and slash game that runs well and still looks decent if aged and Captain Titus is a likeable character... On the other hand though, the game's difficulty SPIKES towards the end, and the power fantasy you experience in the early-mid game fades (And can screw you over) turning into a rage-inducing slog (And the final "Boss" is just a long, dull QTE) As for the story... it does its job, don't expect anything deep. I take no joy writing this review. I wanted to like this, and had fun at first, but by the end of the day the fun got beaten into bloody paste :(

melee and ranged combat in the deranged WH40K universe. Dusty graphics and muddy textures, and not so great audio, but old school rail shooter fun.

this is my first exposure to the Warhammer 40k series, and I am loving it. The combat goes from melee to shooter so seemlessly, and yeah it can be repetitive, but overall very fun 9.5/10

The game received average reviews back in the days, it was by far not one of the best shooters at it's time. But it is fun, even if unfair at some points and with locomotion that could be described as 'strange'. For Warhammer (and shooter) fans it's still a must have. Back in the days I bought the collector's edition with the big fat book included and I am glad to play it now (again) in a DRM free version. I only wished it would have featured the Imperial Fists rather than the Ultramarines :)

Run in a straight line down a path shooting the same things for 20hrs. I've played mobile games with more depth. I enjoyed Boltgun more than this, it at least had interesting levels. It hasn't aged well and is very simplistic. Fine if you're bored with nothing to play and it's on a 90% sale I guess.
