Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War

Gameplay is really engaging , and game dynamics totally differs from, say, Civ, or other 4x I've played. My main issue with the game is the color palette. Everything is so grimmish and darkish, that sometimes it looks like red and gray are the only colors in the world. I'd love to see graphics improvement towards readability, because as of now, everything kinda blends into dirt.

As a massive warhammer 40k fan and a huge 4x fan I was excited when I first played Gladius, this excitment quickly turned into a feeling of meh. It is not a bad game and some of the features are interesting but when compared to other games in the genre it really seems barebones. Look up some gameplay videos on youtube and see the tech tree for example. The DLC prices are far to high for what they offer since its just different factions but in the same shallow framework. I can only give it 2 stars as there simply isnt enough replayability for me, I had some fun but if it wasnt 40k I doubt anyone would be interested in Gladius.

This game is a nice CIV-like game based on lovely WH40k universe. 4 factions(space marines/necrons/orks/Imperial Guards) with a touch of unique mechanics Kinda good AI Nice graphics(at least for me) Sadly, for me it is mostly unplayable, since the 3 games we had with a friends ended up being unfinishable dew to crashes(that is repeatable every time we load a save game and end turn) after 4+ hours in a game. Game is also works very strange on my machine(R7 2700x/16gb ddr4/R9 470X) - every time i'm trying to alt-tab out of it in Full-screen/Borderless window mode, alt-tabing back make the game lag like hell for 10-40 seconds. Can't recomend for buying it until plethora of patches comes.

Good game, but didn’t finish it, since Zephon (The Sequel) has come out. And I don’t want to purchase all the crazy expensive DLC’s for the game. Because I can buy 10 games on sale for the price of the DLC’s!! Don't like that Hero units are not unique, one can build until resource cap, which I don’t like. I like them unique. Otherwise they are just another unit. Just more powerful. Was looking for a game like Civilization. The combat is better in Gladius, and the base building is ok. Gladius maybe has a 90% focus on combat. A lot more than Civ. But wanted more of the building part and there’s not much to do on the map except combat. I miss HOMM, where there are many things to interact with on the map. Would have liked to play more despite the small shortcommings. But those DLC prices and insane amounts of them ruined it for me. Am so old, that I can remember how much content the base games had in them 20+ years ago. Now one has to buy half or more of the games as DLC’s. Crappy and creedy industry is has become.

The comparisons with the Civilization games are unfair. This was clearly meant to be a turn-based StarCraft like game which is exactly the type of game I never knew I wanted until I tried it. It's great for those long winter nights when you're holding the mouse in one hand and a hot tea cup in the other. It runs beautifully on Linux. :)
