Single-Player Campaign

DRM
If your multiplayer is online-only and you don't offer offline LAN, that is DRM. Full stop. This is a lie GOG routinely gets away with when calling their games "DRM free". But removing offline LAN from a game like this, which had the feature originally, is 100 times more egregious. Beyond shameful.

GOG GALAXY enforced multiplayer titles!
At least they had the decency to list the fact that the game needs GOG Galaxy for multiplayer (the same shit that comes with Battlezone 1 and 2)... another title fucked up. Why do we have to rely on 3rd party services to play a multiplayer game? Why? AND were is the original LAN support?

The Gold Standard of 40k RTS
What can I say, this is one of my favorite RTS' of all time. The Multiplayer component of the game is sadly dead but there's still a lot to enjoy. In terms of the games themselves, the first game is a good entry point to learn the ropes of DoW's style of gameplay. Winter Assault was good fun but it has a VERY HARD single-player, the last two levels have a monstrous difficulty spike. Dark Crusade is the banger of the bunch, a great sandbox campaign that's very replayable and just very good solid fun all round. Soulstorm is a bit of an odd one, the base game is alright but suffered from a rushed development cycle but despite this, its still worth playing. The thing that makes this one worth is the mods. Soulstorm is where all the best mods are. Ultimate Apocalypse to name one of them. They all lead to this point.

Gog copy doesn't work with mods
🔍Outdated review: the Unification Mod support has since been added. - GOG Staff Bought the game and immediately tried playing it with automatically and manually installed versions of the Unification mod and (3 hours later after multiple attempts failed) a manual installation of the Ultimate Apolypse Mod as well. Neither worked. I adore this game. I've bought it multiple times on steam for my entire friend group. I personally worked on the Rubric Marines faction modpack. For whatever reason, the GoG version isn't easily or readily compatible with any mods, and - since the game is so old that most modders have moved on to other projects - the folks that are left aren't likely going to waste time adding compatibility with GoG in addition to steam. I can't even describe how crushing it is to me that I can't use any of the truely exceptional fan additions to the game with the Gog copy.
