Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is a fast-paced turn-based strategy game set in the grimdark universe of the 41st Millenium. Pick your force, develop your army, field mighty heroes and fight for victory using superior strategy, awesome abilities, and devastating weaponry.

Age of Crimson Dawn

Experience an epic twenty mission single-player campaign that explores the aftermath of the Devastation of Baal. Help Sergeant Carleon and his allies purge the Tyranid infestation on Baal Secundus, and preserve the honour of the noble Blood Angels.

Skirmish Mode

Fight across the surface of Baal on maps of your choosing and select either the Blood Angels or the Tyranids in the Skirmish mode. Completely customize your army list by picking your units, heroes and their loadouts.

Forge Your Armies

Command iconic units like the Sanguinary Priest, the Librarian Dreadnought, and the Hive Tyrant to annihilate your foes. Use over 60 abilities and 50 weapons to orchestrate your opponent’s bloody demise.

Build Momentum

Each faction has a unique Momentum system that can result in a Surged unit. Units that Surge are able to string together superhuman chains of actions, or use the opportunity to further upgrade their abilities.

Call In Air Support

Use Command Points to call in faction-specific air support abilities. The Blood Angels Stormraven can obliterate xenos with a missile barrage, or deep strike a unit of veteran Assault Marines behind enemy lines. Meanwhile, the Tyranid Harpy can devastate the enemy defenses with its Sonic Screech, or scatter the battlefield with its deadly Spore Mines.

Face Your Friends On The Battlefield

With live and asynchronous multiplayer, and hotseat modes available, there’s no excuse not to take your friends to war.

A Trojan Horse disguised as a game

🔍The anonymous statistics can be turned off at any time from the options of the game -> the MISC tab - GOG Team All sorts of telemetry is collected without consent or ability to be turned off. When I buy software, a game especially I expect NOT TO BE SPIED UPON.

Wanna know about the actual gameplay?

Battlesector is a turn-based square-grid tactics game where you control squads of Warhammer 40k Space Marines from the Blood Angels chapter verses swarms of Tyranids from Hive Fleet Leviathan in what was supposed to be a cleanup training exercise gone horribly wrong. Units have separate pools of movement points and action points they can use in granular fashion, so a unit can move a short distance, use their action point to shoot, then retreat with their remaining movement points. Getting kills generates up to 100 "momentum" points for each unit individually. Momentum passively increases your critical hit chance, and if you hit 100 you can spend it on an extra action that round, or activate a powered up version of a skill. If you hang back and overwatch or otherwise leave action points unused, your momentum drains. These systems reward more aggressive/suicidal gameplay that fits a setting about lunatic fascist theocrats swinging chainsaws at each other. The closest analogue to this game is Sanctus Reach (SR), so here's a quick comparison. In terms of production value Battlesector (BS) is better looking and sounding than SR, with lots of lovingly voice-acted lore. Scale is smaller than SR, the largest vehicle you'll field is a predator tank; no Land Raiders and certainly no Gorkanauts. BS doesn't have a morale system like SR, using momentum to encourage aggressiveness instead. Maps are smaller and there is no random map generator yet, at launch BS has 20 campaign missions and 8 premade skirmish maps. BS maps don't have a turn limit like SR, but neither do they end when you finish all the objectives, you will need to finish off all remaining tyranids to win. IMO, Battlesector is an above-average game at launch, and if the studio's previous record with Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is any indication, it will become something special with patches and DLCs.

Empty shell, Gladius superior

Battlesector offers an empty map, a handful of units of Blood Angels and Tyranids. It tries to fill up the emptiness with endless voice-overs (which are quite nice actually). Unfortunately it does not work: A marine telling me he is fighting the galaxy while my eyes see only a few numbers adding up on screen on an empty brown map... void are the promises of "highly tactical battles", "brutal WH40k combat", "combatants crushing enemy battle formations". The game feels like a prototype/concept without content. The mission briefing (campaign) is filled with words that require a dictionary and an IQ of 150+ (or a crazy dude) to make some sense, and seem to be put in more to distract you from the very long loading times, than to delivering a memorable story. Battlesector does not offer any strategic and tactical depth. No cities, no buildings, no map features that impact gameplay (other than block movement), no terrain (dis)advantages, shallow unit customization, etc. Nothing like Gladius. Please do yourself a favor and go for the (extremely expensive) Gladius with its DLCs (I'm totally confused how this piece of junk can be from the same creators?!). Gladius is superior in every way possible.
