Fun army management game (in disguise)

This is a solid TBS game which, despite being old, does some great stuff that I'd consider hallmarks of more modern TBS games, such as encouraging a balanced army instead of just buying expensive stuff, scouting, and advancing while supported by overwatching units. It also has some annoying stuff: PROS: * The weird armor/armor penetration/strength/number of units statistical arrangement that the game has for determining damage during an engagement is surprisingly solid and yields some intuitive results. Rocket launchers beat tanks. Flamethrowers beat dudes in cover. LMG units beat uncovered infantry. * There are a LOT of units and their slight differences are very consequential. Assault bikes crush light tanks and unsupported artillery. Mortar guys do the same thing as LMG guys but fire indirectly so they can hit without getting hit back. * The units you pick to take with you are important, esp in the early game. CONS: * Unit experience and morale are both important and the game almost hides it from you. More experienced and higher morale units have higher initiative, (so they shoot FIRST and then take damage from whoever's left) higher accuracy, and take less damage. Maintaining unit morale is done either by letting them take a rest (don't do this, there's a time limit) or by parking them next to commander/hero units which restore them. You have to go deep to find this out on your own, and morale is restored very slowly * Since XP is hidden doing things like disbanding/repurchasing units to change loadout is a bad move that should be avoided, if you do this in the early game you'll be screwed later when the enemy units also have high XP. This is why I say it's a sneaky management game, if you just address each mission individually you'll get bogged down later. * One unit can be purchased at a time, and the shop screen is annoying. * The plot is boring. * Heavy infantry is OP. * All air units are bad and dedicated AA units also suck.

Surprising Good

I might be the outlier from most of the other reviews, but I really liked this game. However, I am part of that niche players who is a huge Warhammer fan and an avid player of all types of turn-based games. This game is your standard hex-based combat game much in the vein of Panzer Corps and even made by the same Publishers. I would even suggest this game over WH40K Sanctus Reach as it feels like it captures the universe over the cartoonish Santus Reach. While I really like the graphics, it is definitely the type of graphics which strategic players will appreciate. As far as the turn limit, it is not an issue whatsoever, and if you don't like it there are simple console-type commands that can add as many turns as you wish without mods. I've never lost a game to the turn limit (often times I've come down to the last turn) but this fits the idea of an entire planetary invasion, causing dire needs to hurry and accomplish objectives within particular time periods before cities are overrun. This game fits the intesrst of both Warhammer fans or just fans of military, turn based, games. The story line is actually decent for a game which doesn't focus on it, and there is a huge variety of units. There is enough depth within the different unit and weapon types to require careful thought in what unit you engage with others, and having some universe knowledge definitely helps understand which units and weapons work against which enemies. I would say this WH40K game has captured my interest more than any other Warhammer game has since the first Dawn of War. I can't speak for others, but I really enjoyed this game. I got the entire series while on sale for $25, and there is a ton of hours to be put into the game if you go through all the campaigns. However, there is no skirmish, but there are scenarios and a mediocre editor. But in the end, there are few other games where you can literally field any vehicle or infantry unit of Imperial Guard and Space Marines.

Armageddon's Lost

Great little panzer game in the Warhammer universe. At a first glance this game does not seem to offer a lot but in the end it was just the game i was looking for, for quite some time. Forgiving and Easy on lower settings my first run ended in this adrenaline induced rush to see the story through. While pricey as a single player over the years i spend enough hours into the game to justify its fairly priced proposition. Still i would players unknown to what they are getting into recommend to wait for a sale to try the game without its DLC. And that is the second point, the DLC's difficulty is even higher then the one you find in the normal armageddon campaign. Brutal Unforging, exactly what you should expect from games set in the most warlike enviroment one can find in the digital sector. Yes this game comes with a turns limit but even that is exactly what war offers when you are on the lower side of life right? Ensure to blow the bridge before the enemy has reached it, Rescue the survivors before they are killed. The enemy won't wait so nor should you The grim future holds only war so be sure to strike first!

Game is quite good and enjoying.

Game is overall good. I loke 40k games like Dawn of War (obviously) and i like turn based strategy games like Age of Wonders and Disciples. The turn limit can be somewhat annoying and it was in Valkyria Chronicles where it wasn't a problem but here it can limit your tactics and sometimes you are forced to rush your troops. (And you need to know that to reinforce your unit you need to basically skip their turn and to reinforce morale you need to pull them away from battle first). I need to play it on a higher difficulty than normal because it's almos a cakewalk. But the game is still enjoying. The only problem I have with this game is the implementation of hotseat. It's quite cumbersome to play. First you need create online battle and protect it with password (just to protect your game from someone else who want's to play onlie) and than you need to accept challenge yourself. Game looks wierd and unintuitive, each player needs to load each turn seperatly and his turn begins with your enemy previous movements. It's just wierd. At end of each turn you need to go back to menu and select player whoes turn it is now. (An both players are named the same).
