Nothing beats the competitive feel of racing. Feel the thrill as you race past your opponent, slam their car into a water trap, and beat them by a bumper to the finish line. You won't want to finish because Wacky Wheels is too exciting: avoiding the obstacles, knocking against opponents, launching your weapons against them, beating them to the short cuts, engaging turbo mode on the straightaway, using your hand brake to skillfully hug tight corners without spinning out, and hitting jumps with perfect timing so that you sail above and past your opponents while executing a perfect 360 rotation in midair!
There are three classes of tracks to race on, from novice to expert, which present a wide range of wacky racing conditions. All tracks have special obstacles and dangers: water traps, cacti, oil slicks, posts, stacks of tires, and more. Some tracks are surrounded by water and even lava.
But what you're not expecting is the hedgehogs! Grab all the track-populated hedgehogs you can and hurl them like baseballs at the other racers to send them spinning out of control - giving you time to pass 'em by. Other weapons to collect include bombs, oil slicks, ice blocks, and flame balls.
From start to finish you get edge-of-your-seat excitement and action. When playing, you'll grit your teeth, lean your body into the corners and scream "EAT MAGMA!" as you launch a hedgehog that sends the racer in front of you spinning into the lava!
Although this game is really old (and you can see/feel it), it's still fun. Use the cheats to have even more fun!
In today terms it's very easy to beat, the track layouts are simple and the handling knows only two states (or so it appears), but it's still fun.

CONS / CONTRA:
Yes, it will upscale to fullscreen, but this game is from 1994, and
resolution is only 320x200 , with 256colors.
If you look for high resolution graphics
or want a tough challenge with good AI opponents,
please, go buy a racing simulation game released after 2008.
We put many, many hours into a Shareware version of this on floppy disk from Dollar Tree when I was growing up. The full version doesn't add much, but it's still fun to go back and re-learn the game modes and tracks.
Wacky Wheels was a childhood game of mine. I found it on some shareware disc, and loved it so much back in the day that I actually went and got the full version.
I just installed the gog.com version, and it brought back some pleasant memories. The graphics are a little dated nowadays, but were actually pretty good back when 486 machines were the norm. They are still pleasant on the eyes though.
The gameplay is simplistic, yet fun. You drive around go-carts with funny looking animal characters, and you try to win races by speed, by launching hedgehogs at your opponents' go-carts, dropping oil, shooting fireballs, and so on. The AI does tend to cheat a bit in higher difficulty levels, though Wacky Wheels is ultimately a game that requires skill.
Wacky Wheels is a game I'd recommend to anyone of all ages who doesn't mind a little goofiness when they have time to kill.
I played this game when I was a child on my parents computer, it's been at LEAST over 20 years ago. I remember it though, we had the freeware version at the time I am sure. When I saw this game on GOG I passed it by at first due to the price, however during the summer sale I snatched it up! If you like mario kart clones then this is a very good one. It's simple and childish, because I am just taking a wild guess here...but it was likely marketed to children at the time. I still had fun playing it as a full grown adult in his 30s so judge me all you want, I liked it! Graphics of course are old but it works right out of the box, and I found it an overall good time. I like Sultan...he's my favorite! The characters and tracks all offer something interesting, at least to me. For what they are asking during the summer sale it's worth the price and a good time. If you have children of your own, this should amuse them nicely I believe.
