Vaporum: Lockdown

Its very similar to original Vaporum which was amazing dungeon crawler. But not so cool anymore, its more puzzle crawler. If you are not hardcore into dungeon puzzles and finished all 90s crawlers alone with no help then you will suffer here. No joke, difficulty is higher now, not just in combats, but sadly in puzzles. Devs obviously listened to complains of hardcore retro games too too much and this is result. Game will be unfinishable for lot of players without walkthroughts for sure. I gave it up very soon, barely finished half of game cause i hate nonstop playing with walkthrought. + Slightly better audiovisual than in original + still great hardcore combats +/- It keep uses quite minimalistic RPG system with few changes -/(+) less combats and more puzzles - Story and writing keep sucks, but that was never important in Vaporum - Lot of puzzles, but too hard ones, big problem is fact that not just an optional puzzles are hard, but also main unskippable ones

I ran out of healing items and it appears tthere are no verndors or a crafting system, so F for me, I guess I'm not good enough for this game, a shame, it has a nice monster variety and the dungeon has a great vibe too it, even tho some rooms are very dark, the stop time mode should not have a grey filter over it, I found out is the optimal way to solve puzzles and fight enemies, but having my screen flickering with the colors made me sick, I wanted to see more of the game, but normal turned out to be too much for me.

Vaporum Lockdown is a solid dungeon crawler with old-school mechanics set in a steampunk world. It features a good balance of challenging but fair puzzles and combat. Combat takes place in real time, but you can stop the time at any given moment if things get too hectic. Since this is a steampunk world, your protagonist uses something called an "exosuit", which can be upgraded via a substance called "fumium" collected from killed enemies. The exosuit can furthermore be outfitted with guns and weapons as well as scientific gadgets - the game's version of a "magic system". The game offers 4 "classes", which differ mostly in starting values as they all can learn the same skills. The skill tree is rudimentary but provides enough variety to create interesting builds. Overall performance and optimization are good. My system fulfills just a bit more than the minimum requirements and I can run graphics on full regardless without stutter. If you are uncertain whether you should get the original Vaporum or the prequel Lockdown: Know that it doesn't matter too much. Both are so similar, you can pick either. Also, the story of neither requires prior knowledge of the other. Unfortunately Lockdown feels and plays more like an add-on to "Vaporum" though. It tells the same story, just from a different perspective. Even opponents are identical, except for a few new additions. Mechanics are unchanged, except for a few new skills. The only downside is that the scenes are a bit too generic and presentation is repetitive, some puzzles elements ore overused to the point of "oh, please, not another poison gas puzzle". The story also doesn't add anything new or interesting to the world of its predecessor. Which is fine if you haven't play the original yet but otherwise justifies the meager 3 stars rating. As for fans of Linux, Mac and those who perhaps run Win7 in dual boot: Developers have promised to implement support for all three "soon". It might be worth checking back later.

Devs have said that there is a bug in unity and they are trying to fix it. Probably it will be ok after the first patch. So wait for that patch to play it on W7. And for the toxic W10 mob who are saying W7 is an outdated OS, No it's not an outdated OS, it's a complete OS, we don't need security updates from MS. As for the game, it looks cool, like the first one. It's probably a 4 star.

Linux support for this game was added to Steam on October 16. It's been two weeks and the GOG version still has yet to add support for Linux. Spend your money elsewhere, GOG is too slow.
