Vampyr

The game's graphics and storyline do a good job creating an believable and interesting atmosphere. This is the game's strong suit. The story is a bit off. The guts of the game are choosing dialogue options with characters and then moving into combat areas. The dialogue options are all arbitrary and are just guessing games. It gets rather old moving through the same dialogue trees. The first playthrough will seem okay, but even it gets repetitive. The story itself is all over the place. Some of the characters are interesting, but the main plot gets jumbled. There are also characters that behave in ways that are not appealing, yet the game tries to make out that you as a player should accept them. This kind of brainwashing is not needed, and where are the real choices? The combat is rather bland. You'll be repeating the same moves a lot. The key is to dash around and then attack. This works on just about everyone. The powers you receive are neat, but some of them don't do much. This is a decent atmospheric game with game elements grafted in. It doesn't really fit well as a whole. It's a shame because the environments would work quite well here if it weren't so limited.

I bought it while on sale so im happy i didn't get at full price cause it isn't worth 49.99 i would value it at only 15 The reason is cause you have no control over save files, it is all auto save. So if you do something to bad you got to start all over to fix the problem or get different results. I hate autosave only games. The other reason is if you use any ammo, or serums and get defeated you lose them till you go back to get more. Tough boss fight and lost to bad you gotta do it now without your shit or risk going through areas where enemies respawned to get more just to hike it back and maybe lose again and repeat. Pro's -Story was decent enough to keep me playing -atomsphere is amazing and love the 1918's london with war, diease, poverty -charcter stories and how to know them is interesting but to much of hassle and can make mistakes (can't fix it if you missed the right choice to get the hint or forgot it in a previous chapter) -different outcomes if you embrace anyone or not Con's -combat needs a lot of work, half the time it seemed like the parry or dodge wouldn't work at all -autosave is a big no from me -interacting with charcters is boring, and has no emotions -stamina is to low for starting out and can quickly get you killed -Enemies seem like they kill you with 2 hits but take 20 and don't even flinch -forced to do the walkthrough on how to play the game or be punished overall score 4.7/10

Have to say that the start of the game (chapers 1-3 roughly) was a clear 5 game. Exellent writing, voice acting, gameplay. THEN when you start reaching the fourth and last district the game starts seriously outstaying it's welcome. To much of the same, had the game ended around this point it would have been an excellent game, but it didn't. Around this point it was a 4 star game... BUT it keept going and ruined the writing with an ending that jumps all over the place, in true Brittish-season-two-series-style. Had this game been roughly 20-40% shorter it whould have been that much better.

story and characters are very meh but what really makes me drop it is the combat, you are dropped into a city with enemies far higher level than you and if you end up dying you respawn at the nearest safehouse except while the enemies all respawn you lose all ammo you used during it... what a absolutely garbage game mechanic, either return all things i lost dying or don't let the enemy respawn....

I played Vampyr on PS4 at launch. I loved it for the music, world building, story telling and novel narrative mechanics. It had some stand out dramatic cinematics that wowed me. In my playthrough, I deliberately avoided feeding on people and did my best to heal the districts. I found the combat fine, despite the added challenge by choosing not to feed on civilians. One point I appreciated: If you choose to give in to vampiric hunger by feeding on ordinary folk, whilst the protagonist became stronger, it also makes the final boss stronger because it feeds on the chaos you leave in your wake. Refreshing! If you appreciate good dialogue and well crafted stories, I heartily recommend. Less so if you want more action.
