"World of Darkness" meets "Diablo"
I first played this game when it came out. Right then I thought the game was cool. But - almost 20 years later - I decided to replay the game. And let me state that I thought the game was even better now than when it was released. Gameplay: Basically, imagine a "Diablo-like" in 3D. You control your character with the mouse. Left-click to move the character & attack. Right-click to launch spells. It's "Diablo" even to the inventory management and quick-slots. Along the game you get to find random loot, sell that which you do not need and boost your character stats. A great innovation is that, as the game progresses, you get to manage a team (like a party-based "Diablo") which can react according to your instructions. As the game is in real time it can seem tricky at first, but you can press the "Pause" key at any time, freezing the game in order to manage your inventory, select spells, targeting enemies or choosing which character to control. The game is divided in two main plot-points: the Middle-Ages and the 20th century. The game makes a good job of showing the difference between medieval melee combat and the modern times, where you can use firearms, but have to manage ammo as well. Plot: The story is quite linear. No side-quests. But the main plot is entertaining enough. At first the story may seem extremely cheesy and cliché, but it gets better as the game progresses. Graphics: The game is from 2000. So the game shows its age. But interestingly enough, the visual quality of the game also improves as you play. If the "Dark Ages" setting may seem very dated and "blocky", the Modern scenarios are extremely detailed and well planned. Replaying it in 2020 amazed me by how good certain sets were. Bottom line: If you love "Diablo-Like" games, then you should give this one a try! (note: the store page states that the game won't run on Windows 10, but I managed to play it to the end without any issue.)
