The closest I got to Fallout 1/2
As above. It's the closest experience to Fallout 1/2 I've so far ever and I have played a lot of RPGs.

Slow and Steady
Game is amazing. A slog and for getting a build with the weapons and style you want is RNGesus based and even as I haven't finished it yet, I still come back to play it and I'm considering new games and builds all the time. Highly recommend for peeps who love strategy, gameplay, and anything deep in philosophy and history.

A must play
I played the game for 2 hours before hating it and giving up. Then I continued and played for 5 hours before hating it and giving up. Then I played for 100 hours before ending it (more or less completing it). A future classic. A very well crafted combat system. A very well crafted set of interactions with various factions (with some minor bugs). A very well designed set of mazes^H^H^H^H^H maps that interconnect in a very smart way. A frustrating set of limitations (you CAN'T explore everything). A series of frustrating dungeons or bosses until you find the way to work them around. A creepy feeling here and there, and there too. You will hate Depot A or Mushroom Forest or Creeping Dread or Burrowers or the Robot Factory and I.R.I.S. and the Ironheads and more. A probably well crafted choice of "classes" (I played only one, but could appreciate how others could do). One of the best games of the year. SuNo

Great with gatekeeping flaws
There are so many 10/10 experiences in this game. The atmosphere, the plot lines, the combat is deep (but I have to play on easy!) and yet for all that there is good there is still bad. I've put in a lot of hours thinking if it was really worth losing a star for, and I've concluded that Underrail is an incredible game for CRPG lovers. For the new initiates or those with cursory interests, this is not the RPG for you. This is solely, in my opinion due to the huge lack in quality of life features common is RPGs as old as the genre. This game is humongously large, there's caves to get lost in, cool environments to traverse through and interesting zones to conduct strategic combat. Yet it takes forever to get from A to B. There is no speed up or "normal" fast travel. You must search online for the fan made game speed ups or else you will find yourself falling asleep. Not because the game is super boring, sure it gets boring when you're that slow, but because you have played for so long and got so little content in return you want to keep playing. The game is great but it lacks a timeliness to its movement speed. Beyond that, the game is incredibly hard and you will find that online there are countless minmaxers theorizing builds. While interesting, I don't have the time to do so anymore. If you were to play on the regular speed without the fan made speedhacks, your build would only truly be tested about 30-40 minutes in. Maybe less when speedrunning. This is when most experts say you should restart if you can't pass this place easily. That is way too much time investment! In my opinion as a more casual mainstream player who has played a lot of classic RPGs and the new age of CRPGs, Underrail is great but not friendly. You need to work to get something good out of it, and that work shouldn't be needed.

Need patience
The game contains lots of combats, especialy under dominating difficulty. At first, it feels challenging. But as time goes by, it becomes tiresome. Early version even had memory leak problem, and frequently crashed.
