wowzers!

you know how sometimes you'll play a game, and not be that impressed with it, but then later you start to really crave it? thats what happened to me with this one, I played it once and found it to be quiet possibly the most boring game ever if i recall, and then one day it appears on Gog.com, and i get this craving like i wont be happy until i've played it all day long. now when i play it, its like i'm being fed happiness in digital form. so bottom line, you'll probably like it AFTER you give it a try if not WHILE you play it the first time!

The Reason I Joined GOG

It was so refreshing being able to get this game (along with Savage Empire and Ultima VI) without having to visit shady abandonware web sites or other questionable means. When I got my first PC with my own cash money around 1991, these were the games I bought. I spent untold hours on these games, and this game in particular blew me away with the very compelling storyline. The game was not easy to finish, either, because I had to use a few brain cells to piece things together. At first, I did not think the game would be that great when I first bought it, because a trip to Mars did not appear to make great story fodder. I was wrong. I do not want to say anymore to spoil the game, but trust me, the mixture of historical and Lord British's characters made this game all worth it. Again, the storyline is NOT cheesy and cliched. Some thought was put into it. If this were a book, I would have read it. Give this a try - you will like it.

Way better than Savage Empire

After the somewhat disappointing Savage Empire, I played Martian Dreams. With memory of SE still fresh, MD is immediately a better game from the start. I had found no bugs (Although I did get a fright concerning the Radium Block, so be careful not to use those other than for the story), game doesn't freeze using Roland emulation like in SE, it has multiple animated cutscenes, more so than Ultima 6, more or less better music, a perfect day and night duration, better story and conveniences within the game. Downside... the lag is very bad in this game. While SE was short and felt more like a U6 DLC, MD was an expansion. Definitely felt much more longer than SE, I definitely enjoyed it more than SE. Both games however, would probably benefit in today's game engines and from a different perspective. I loved the Ultima series, while the Worlds of Ultima games would rank below all the flagship titles the potential was there despite its poor sales. I wouldn't want a remake for the flagship Ultima's but SE & MD... definitely yes.

No way!

This was my second favorite Ultima title, second only to Ultima VII. And it's free! I didn't know if I'd ever get to play this again. I remember how gratifying it was when I finally...Oh, well, nevermind. Don't want to give any spoilers.
