The Masterpiece of open world RPGs
Words can't describe how amazing this 1992 RPG game is. Developed by Richard Garriott's Origin, this jewel is the absolute masterpiece of video game role playing games. As a kid and as an adult, I've spent countless hours exploring Britannia and The Serpent Isle (my favourite, and my most nostalgic memories), their inhabitants, monsters, treasures, and hidden locations and enchanted places. At the time there was nothing in the market like this game that combined so many technical feats: amazing NPC AI, day and night cycles, seamless open world (including caves and dungeons! absolutely no pause or loading screens), state of the art inventory system with paperdolls where you could see how the items, armor and weapons looked when you wore them, tons of spells, crafting system, interaction with the world, amazing plot, storytelling and engaging npcs, and a million more things. I don't know if it's just plain crazy nostalgia, but honestly nothing ever came close to Ultima VII and The Serpent Isle ever after.
