Description
Experience fantasy role-playing’s most distinctive and award-winning series in this special three-game collection. Ultima: The Second Trilogy follows the spellbinding tale of the Avatar in this richly detailed and challenging story. The setting is medieval Britannia, but the stories are timeless and involve universal issues that explore the essence of virtue. First, there is the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment in Ultima IV, where your personal ethics are tested in a treacherous struggle to demonstrate the eight virtues of Avatarhood. Then in Ultima V, you rely on your new-found strengths and skills to oppose a tyrannical leader who warps the virtues you uphold through his twisted legislation of morality. Finally, in the epic concluding chapter of Ultima VI, you, the Avatar, must resolve the cultural conflict between a race of hostile creatures and your own. It all adds up to a relentless test of character in a world where things are not always as they appear, and evil is not easily defined.

  • Visit thousands of colorful places and characters, search towns, castles, and villages. Converse with merchants and mages, all as you walk, ride, and sail across Britannia
  • Explore magic, combat, and deception – weave hundreds of magical spells, watch axes and arrows fly in combat, discover clues, and solve mysteries
  • Witness the transformation from Stranger to Avatar through self-improvement, then join him on his quests to save Britannia and become the savior of all.

Ah, the memories...

If you want to take a trip back in time and see what an RPG game was like for those of us born in the 70’s and playing during the 80’s on a Commodore 64, then buy these and dive in. Put away your phone/tablet and forget about consulting a walkthrough, because those didn’t exist back then. Get a pencil and notepad, and prepare to write a ton of stuff down. Refer to your cloth (if you can still get your hands on one) map often. Travel the world and talk to everyone you can find, because most of them have something important to tell you. There is no in-game map, no in-game journal, no marker above any NPC’s head, no quest log, etc. Just you, your notes, and your intimacy with the world of Britannia.

Ultima 6

When I first started playing it (after I had played Ultima 7!), i was initially put off by the graphics and the turn based movement. But before long, I had totally forgotten about that, because the game is just so good you don't even notice the graphics after a while! Amazing game, i love it. Such a big, amazing world to explore with so many towns. And sometimes when you are just wandering around the countryside you will come across a cave or something with something so cool and interesting in it! Oh I love this game :)

YEEEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

More Ultima!!!!!!!!! 10 stars!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the next one will be 7? Anyone who likes RPGS needs these games. Watch how the stories really become more intense as the series moves forward. Enjoy the first six and take time on them and really get to know the Avatar so when 7 comes, you will feel Shamino, Dupre, Iolo and the gang will become like close friends. If you like RPGs you owe it to yourself to download these classics.

Bringing things to a boil...

I'm not going to lie to you, these games take quite a bit of patience but if you are willing to set aside some time to draw your own maps, jot down your own notes and take 10 to appreciate the mysteries of the world by yourself, you will have the most immersive, often surprising and FUN experience in your gaming life. Originally packaged with booklets containing recipes for spells (material and somatic components required) setting details written in a fictional POV and a beautiful cloth map of the world with a x & z axis for actual navigation, these served as a means of dipping your toes into this living, breathing fictional world. While you may be intimidated by the storied history of this series, I actually think that this trilogy (dubbed as the virtue trilogy) is the BEST place to dip your toes into the series. Starting with U4 (which is free by the way) you begin play persistently in the then new world of Britannia. All of the clues, geography, culture, words of power and runic alphabet are largely consistent in the trilogy but this isn't a linear adventure with a story told to you in a linear fashion, it's an open, breathing world that gives YOU the player the responsibility and agency to surmount its troubles and to solve its enigmas. It is not a narratively driven game but rather a player driven one. The goals are obvious from the outset but to actually accomplish them is often a hard won battle that can take surprising turns. It absolutely is not for everyone, the game like I said requires patience and an open mind but if you play them like you would in the 80's.... (That is, no internet access and only your own awesome brain) You are sure to have a great time.

One of the best games made... no music

Ultima V is probably my favorite game of all time, I picked this up on GOG years ago because I will always buy a copy of Ultima V for every system. I fired the game up and searched for ways to turn the music on... because Ultima V without music... isn't Ultima V. To my HORROR... this IS NO MUSIC?! I played this game on an Apple IIe and it had music... you are telling me the PC version has no music? I literally can't play this game without the music. I'm very sad about this, I would rather run it on an Apple II emulator than play this version.
