UBOAT is a simulator of a submarine from WWII era, yet different than all you have seen so far. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.
In UBOAT you control the crew in order to control the boat. You look after their physical and mental health, because if the sailors are hungry, tired and their spirit is low, there’s no chance of winning even a skirmish.
Survival
The extensive damage system is a foundation of the game's survival elements. Unprecedented situations are bound to happen as the effect of received damage, testing player's creativity and ability to stay calm. You can try to save the whole crew or leave someone behind, to save the others.
While your ship travels through the open seas, you will often find yourself being on your own. Use your management skills to spend resources taken on the trip optimally and in special cases try to recover them on the sea, by asking your allies for the help... or by looting wreckages of enemy ships.
Disable unnecessary devices, to keep your accumulators running for longer.
Tell your crew to stay in their bunks to preserve oxygen.
If crew's morale is low - play with them a session of Skat or play music from nearby radio stations, to fortify their hearts.
Kriegsmarine career
During the playthrough you will receive assignments from the Kriegsmarine headquarters. They are never linear and you may receive additional orders during them or face unexpected problems.
Brave completion of assignments from the headquarters is rewarded with additional budget for the unit under your command and with acceptance of your growing reputation as an u-boat's skipper. You will need that, to upgrade your ship and keep up with enemy's technological advances.
Upgrade your boat for the rewarded funds.
Receive additional permissions for the reputation points.
Buy new equipment - new torpedo types, sonar decoys, CO2 absorbers and much more.
Send your officers on special tasks in the headquarters to, among other things, speed up a research of new technologies.
Accurate simulation
Game's simulation elements are very realistic, but that never comes at a cost of gameplay quality. Despite extensive simulation elements, UBOAT can be played like a regular game and complex matters can be learned later to become a better skipper for the commanded unit.
Even small things like the influence of ballast in each compartment on the ship's trim (tilt) or Earth's curvature are faithfully reproduced in the game.
Perfection can be achieved in many ways. Prove your management skills and swiftly assign work to your officers to speed things up. If, on the other hand, you think that if something needs to be done, it's better to do that on your own - sit behind the periscope, hydrophone or 88 mm deck gun and take matters in your own hands!

I am very sad to say that this game is not good at the moment. I know they are still working on it, but I can't take something like this - realese the game in this stage to players - full of bugs and crashing.
I can't even exit the game, I have to force to close it. I could't even finish training :( I tried twice and the same thing happened just in different moment.
Sorry guys - I am not sure what is going on but at least should ba able to play with basics. Plus even when I trying to get my boat to go underwater it doesn't so wtf is this??? Uboat which can't do nr1 thing then for me is not what I want to play really. I am tired of laggy games.
I wish that this will change! A lot of players is waiting for good sub-uboa kind of game, but need to be good one, not that crap what we have on the market right now.

Dark nights, drumming rain, stomping diesels, red lights, troubled seas, leaden skies: whats more to wish?
Awesome early access development cycle with courageous decisions like to revise the whole time compression system, made this game by now my favoured subsim.
Althought there are several types of missions such as drop spy, build weatherstation etc., the core of this game is in my view the convoy battle.
Every time amazed anew how immersive it gets once a convoy its spotted:
Admire the smoke stacks on the horizon, find weak spots of the destroyer screen, try to sneak in to come close enought to launch torpedos, wait for hits or duds and finally try to get away.
Sounds simple, but there is radar, sonar, aircover to spoil the party.
If thats too tricky for you, fear not: there are 3 main difficulty settings (entertaining/balanced/hardcore) and a lot of options to adapt difficulty to individual wishes.
Admittedly the destroyer AI could use some improvments;
playing the game in first person perspective isn´t completely fleshed out;
and some sound revision before final release is vital too.
This game is easily worth its full price and discounted its a bang for the buck.
Go for it, if you are enjoying subsims or generally games with maritime atmosphere.
By the way: Don´t miss the great mods! They work very well with the GOG version.
And thanks to the developers for releasing and maintaining this game here on GOG!
Historically accurate. High learning curve but rewarding. (I played with mostly realistic level, there are options for more arcade playing but I encourage you to learn how to work out the torpedo targeting techniques, it's worth it when you succed a hit!)
Graphics are great. My 6 year old computer and graphic card struggles at times, but it's definetly playable.
Highly recommended for anyone who likes simulators, WWII themed games, or sea-related warfare. It's a must for hard-core subsimmers.
I really wish I could give this game 2.5 stars. 2 makes it sound like it's a bad game, but it's not. The potential is there to be a modern take on the Silent Hunter series. My escape from a convoy attack I foolishly launced in shallow waters was thrilling. The game could be a lot of fun. The problem is that it's not there yet.
There is much to like about the game and I'm sure I'll keep playing it. But the game fights you every step of the way. And not in a, wow this is hard, kind of way; instead in a wow this is buggy kind of way.
The game is very buggy. I can't say everything I've experianced is a bug, I'm sure there are interciacies in the combat that I haven't learned yet. But there are numorous instances of obvious bugs.
Here's a few:
-If you rely on the atuopilot to guide you into port there is a high chance the autopilot will smash you into a wall, injuring ship and crew.
-3 of my crew just dissapeared after starting to search a cargo ship. Trying again resulted in my game crashing.
-I have had multiple times where a ship is sunk, I mean, it's below water, but the game doesn't say it's sunk. Pumping more shells into it doesn't do anything.
-The UI dissapeared and I was stuck looking longingly into my commander's eyes with no way to go back.
And the bugs aren't the worst of it, the worst of it is fighting with the UI.
You don't even notice a good UI, everything is clear and obvious. This is not that. I'm constantly struggiling to figure out how to do what I want to do. How do I check how many torps I have in storage? Go into the sub room, right click the torp tubes and select check storage. Want to zoom out on the binos? You have to click the small button, scrolling makes you leave the station.
I would go on, but I'm hitting the word limit.
Oh, not the games fault but the devs might not be moving all the content to GOG. The first DLC isn't on GOG, we'll see about the second. Also, of course, no workshop.
TLDR: good ideas, needs more work.
