Tyrian 2000

Pretty sure this also includes some classic 'mini' games, some that are two player. The Tyrian game itself is two player, one using the mouse... or it was. Good times.

Tyrian 2k is a refreshed version of classic PC shoot'em up, which brings many console counterparts to shame. Dozens of levels filled with enemies and secrets, mad Super Arcade mode with hidden ships, huge arsenal of weapons to buy - T2k is one of those games which make you wonder how in the world they were surpassed by much worse products (here it would be Raptor - rather okay game, but nowhere as big and complex as Tyrian). And it's freeware. You have no excuse - go and play it!

This game is Fun, Exciting, Entertaining, and Free. I dont see any reason why you shouldnt play it.

Thank You for giving us this great game and for including the soundtrack as 320kbps mp3 :) I just love those tracks. As for the opn source version - it's based on Tyrian 2.1 not 2000 which makes it include less chapters, ships etc.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I didn't find this game terribly engaging. The difficulty seems too hard, where upgrades cost far more than you can realistically gather in a mission and so your guns are constantly underpowered and make it even harder to kill enemies and get money, and the plot seems to be mostly hard-to-follow gibberish (I completed the first chapter and was greeted with... some kind of head impaled on a weird alien stake? What did that have to do with anything??) I do appreciate the variety of weapons and enemies, but I don't find it fair or fun to get through a long stage of shooting performing flawlessly, only to have the end stage boss that takes up 75% of the screen ram into you and kill you in one hit in a way you can't avoid unless you were lucky enough to already be moving in the opposite direction. It seems like most of the five star reviews are fueled by nostalgia from playing it when they were younger, and hey, good for them, and good for GOG for giving it away free, but it's definitely not for everyone.
