Remaster vs Game Itself

The Remaster of Turok 3 is wonderful almost to a fault but still does a great job of cleaning up many issues the game had. It looks amazing, the new textures are great, every effort was made to have T3 feel like it was back in 2000 but with a 2023 touch. With that also lies the few problems the game always had. T3 was a big undertaking that pushed the N64 to its limit, many sacrifices were made to have the title act and play like its contemporaries ex: Half Life. It strayed from the Hub World design and went for a more linear path -Suggestions 1. Re-spawning enemies: Since the game had to deal with the N64 in 2000, not many enemies are already present on the map. T3 ops to have most enemies spawn in, and most out of view. This becomes an issue because unless you go to their spawning location the enemies seemingly come forever. The best solution would be to place enemies already on the map, maybe even in new locations and have a set number of spawns per location, that number depending on the difficulty level 2. Enemy AI. I heard the AI has been improved but from playing the enemies still make a beeline towards the player barely doing tactics. ND needs to implement an AI closer to Turok 2 3. Maps: Though I believe ND did flesh out areas more, the game itself still feels to small or short in areas where with the new KEK engine ND could expand the maps and levels giving more exploration 3. Cut enemies: Like all Turok games, there are cool cut enemies that need to be re-added 4. Ammo count: You don't hold enough ammo and have no way to increase total ammo count. All Turok games share this issue 5. Weapons: Two big issues, there is redundancy with T3's "different" weapons which share ammo where they should have different ammo types. When a weapon gets upgraded it should replace the base weapon and have 2 firing modes, an ex would be the MAG60 should replace the pistol and have single fire and burst. Also the roster could use Rage War weapons. 6. Need armor

First time

I never played the original game way back when but this appears to be a solid remaster as it goes and with high props to Nightdive. It's not the highest point in the series but it's far from the lowest by a fair stretch.

Pretty good and unique atmosphere.

You'll surely see in a lot of places that they'll call this game "the black sheep" of of the franchise or just not as good as the others. I disagree. This game still keeps that Turok gameplay with lots of different and fun weapons, two ways of playing with two characters with an unique gimmick each which affects how you traverse levels, cool music and satisfying gunplay in general. If the other game's mazes aren't your thing or just couldn't get into the games due to the nature of their mazes and repeated ambience, this game's got you. While stages are way more linear than the previous games, each of them are truly unique and different from each other. It won't be "Oops, it's all jungles!". Bosses are also great and pretty unique and offer a fun nice end to each level. Don't listen to those reviews saying the game "isn't as good as the first Turok", they just appeal to different tastes and play styles each and 3 might just be your game if you couldn't get into the other two games. Give it a try and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Ok port, terrible game

I finished it on normal after slogging my way through about half of chapter 1 on hard. TL;DR It's nothing like Turok 2 or Turok 1 in terms of gameplay design. Some weapons come back, some frankly straight up ripped from Turok 2 with less weapons overall. Mostly linear or railroaded levels, poor level design, few enemy types. The only reason to buy this would be to support Nightdive, because I guess they'll need the money to buy some oats so they don't fking starve to death after polishing this turd of a game. Which they accomplished as well as one could expect, so if anything it's impressive. Pros: + Gore It's meaty, chunky, sloshy and disgusting. I love it. Enemy body parts explode, most enemies have several body parts that can be destroyed. + Each chapter ends with a boss All of them are unique. Not very fun to fight though. Cons: - Levels Levels are very small. Very few open areas have respawning enemies (goofy mechanic from Turok 1) and bland design. The game is also very short. I had to restart 1st level after about 30 minutes of grinding at it on hard and I still finished the game in sub 3h. - Difficulty Normal is too easy, Hard is insanely difficult as enemies have huge AoE and near-hitscan accuracy. I did play without autoaim though, maybe this game was designed with autoaim in mind... - Weapons Less weapons than Turok 2, no alternative ammo. Tek Bow now only fires explosive arrows. If you want to use normal arrows you have to use regular Bow. - Enemy variety There are usually 2-3 enemy types, per chapter, some of which are taken from Turok 2 with almost no changes. - Story Tries too hard to justify itself, fails anyway. - Adon Turok 2's Adon was a hottie. This one is a weird mutant-chick with megaman hands. Lowdown I could replay this as an alternative character, but... why? The only reason I didn't refund it is because Nightdive did a good job and I want them to keep doing it. Just hope they'll pick better games.

Not bad but not great either.

I remember playing this on my N64 back in the day. Though still mediocre and easily the worst in the trilogy, Nightdive did a great job remastering it. The game is much sharper and runs muuch better than its N64 counterpart. However, because of this, you can definitely see flaws in the models. Gunplay is better but some of the hit scanners are just as annoying as before (some can hit you through walls and doors), the levels are very linear and boss fights are really easy. I wish Nightdive could have remastered the voice lines and some of the sound FX but it is what it is. The soundtrack is pretty decent. I'm guessing the reason this game is the most pricey out of the trilogy is because the other two had PC ports already while (I believe) this one didnt so more work was involved. Is it worth full price? Probably not. If you find it on sale, its worth it if you're a Turok fan. I still don't like Adon's design.
