A world where time has no meaning - and evil knows no bounds. Torn from a world long gone, the time traveling warrior Turok has found himself thrust into a savage land torn by conflict. An evil overlord known as 'The Campaigner' seeks to shred the fabric of time and rule the universe using an ancient artifact known as 'The Chronoscepter'. The Chronoscepter was shattered thousands of years ago in an effort to keep it from falling into evil hands. The Campaigner has constructed a massive focusing array which he plans to use to magnify and pervert the power of the Chronoscepter in order to shatter the barriers between the ages and rule the universe. Turok has vowed to find the eight pieces of the Chronoscepter spread throughout the Lost Land and put an end to The Campaigner's evil plot...

The Price Brings Turok Down A Peg.

PROS: Quick and fluid gameplay, fairly open world (for a 1990s FPS), fun weapons, diverse locales, gamepad support, modern FPS controls, modest hardware requirements. CONS: PRICE, no multiplayer.

A fantastic first person shooter

This game is the most stereotypical 90s game I've ever played, and I love it! Ultra macho character CHECK! Fighting humans, monsters, aliens and robots for no apparent reason CHECK! Shitloads of enemies and weapons CHECK! Huge levels with incredible level design CHECK! Boss fights CHECK! Technically impressive... well for 1997... CHECK! Literally 1 line of dialog in the whole game CHECK! The game is really fun to play, and it's good to have a version of it that runs out of the box on modern hardware, but there are a couple of things I didn't like. First of all: the price! 20 euros for an old game are quite a lot, but it was really fun to play so I'll forgive that Second: some enemies respawn, and it's immensely annoying, especially those bloody flies! Last but not least: the map sucks ass! No zoom, and a lot of times, some areas aren't even mapped. I can understand not showing secret areas, but a lot of caves aren't mapped either, and the tutorial literally says that if you get lost in a cave, you can use the map. Real clever.

The Speed

Excellent to finally get a chance to play this game at a full 60FPS as opposed to the 10 FPS or so it ran on the N64. Some open level design areas that repopulate and having to actually conserve ammunition is rather amazing compared to other games that were out at the time. However, some levels I have had issues finding out where I had to go and they left me wandering for some time. If you miss a key that you desperately need before you leave, that can also really be aggrivating as you'll have to repeat the level again in order to get the key before you head back to the Hub Area. Worth it if you only ever tried it in the past with low frame rates and want to see how this game handles at higher speeds with enemies that react more in real time than the snails pace that the consoles of yesteryear allowed. That being said, I give you full warning: Due to the enhanced speed and the camera 'lean' effect the game has when you run around at fast speeds, it can cause motion sickness. You might have to limit your time playing it and it could potentially make you sick to your stomach. You have been warned!

ARE YOU NUTS!!!

Don't get me wrong. Turok 1 and 2 are good games, heck I'd say great even, especially for their time. and these modern ports do a pretty good job of bringing these old-school fps classics to modern systems for new generations to enjoy, with better controls than what us old timers had back on the n64 to boot but there is just one problem and a major one at that. and that is the price point. asking people to pay $19.99 a piece for two games that while they are indeed classics. and they are most definitely better than any of the other pieces of modern cookie-cutter mass-produced AAA tripe that the games industry tries to force down our throats every year. (I'm looking at you call of duty!) they are unfortunately also very old and despite the quality of life improvements that night dive has implemented into both games. the only people that are going to be interested in playing them are either people like myself who grew up with these games and want them back in their game libraries because of nostalgia. or people who just like retro games in general and don't mind the practically ancient. at least by today's standards gameplay and graphics and all the pros and cons that come with them, for god's sake when I first bought these. (it was on my switch) I only paid $6.99 for each and that was just after they released them. (though as I type this they are now $19.99 on the e-shop as well) but to make my final point clear, these are good games, good old games you might say but at the end of the day, they are just that. good OLD games and while that is perfectly acceptable in my book. Charging these outrageous prices for them is not. so I'm going to have to recommend that while you should definitely buy both of these games, do NOT!! pay the full asking price for them, wait for them to go on sale first before you do, and if they DON'T put them on sale here at GOG then go somewhere else where they have them on sale frequently just please don't pay full price for them.

more fun than expected

This was one of those games that I went over to friends' places to play but they always hogged (because I would die a lot when I played), so I only got to really get into it with this release. I have to say, even at $20 I'd buy it. Night Dive did a fantastic job updating the game and getting it to play brilliantly on PC. I expected this to be a kind of novelty purchase, but it's one of the most fun FPS games I've played in a while, and it feels surprisingly fresh even now. Highly recommended, especially to those who have never played it before.
