The Lost Land...
A world where time has no meaning - and evil knows no bounds. Torn from a world long gone, the time traveling warrior Turok has found himself thrust into a savage land torn by conflict. An evil overlord known as 'The Campaigner' seeks to shred the fabric of time and rule the universe using an ancient artifact known as 'The Chronoscepter'. The Chronoscepter was shattered thousands of years ago in an effort to keep it from falling into evil hands. The Campaigner has constructed a massive focusing array which he plans to use to magnify and pervert the power of the Chronoscepter in order to shatter the barriers between the ages and rule the universe. Turok has vowed to find the eight pieces of the Chronoscepter spread throughout the Lost Land and put an end to The Campaigner's evil plot...

GOG confusingly lists this as the 1997 version of Turok, but it's actually the 2015 remaster, with graphical improvements and changes to the levels - hence its surprisingly high price. It's a meaningfully different product from the original 1997 game.
Whether the remaster is worth the asking price is another matter, but be aware that you're paying for a modern Enhanced Edition, not a 20-year old game.
Impressions so far. Night Dive just might be my favorite studio. This is a create recreation of an old N64 classic. Weather or not it has aged well is debatable but this release is not. The added graphical features adds a nice touch and can be turned off if you don't like them. Playing this game at 60hz without fog is eerie (in a good way) to say the least. Turok might not be for everyone but it's decently worth checking out. This review is purely based on the PORT of the game more so then the game itself. As far as ports of older games go. This is a complete thumbs up and recommendation to all who liked the N64 classic. Next, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye
I had this game when 3dfx Voodoo 1 was the best 3D accelerator you could buy. Back then, I only played using the keyboard and didn't get very far with this game. Today, of course I am using the mouse and keyboard and the controls are perfect. I think the controls were a bit clunky in the original release but really are perfect in this. Very fun gameplay and great atmosphere.
Usually I buy GoG games just to test some old games I missed and often don't really play them unless I have plenty of extra time. I ended up getting hooked on this and just waiting to play some more. The graphics are nothing of today's standards but exactly how I remember them to be, so why complain.
To the bad, I never liked the checkpoint/save system of this game and finding keys in the maps. It would have worked better without hunting the keys to proceed. For they price GoG is asking this is not worth getting but surely is when the price comes down a bit.
It's the Turok you remember from years ago with a few small but welcome additions. The game comes with a number of graphical and customization options that most will appreciate, such as a FOV slider or the ability to remove the fog that limited viewing distance. The only real complaint I have is with the price point. Like others I expected something around $9.99 to $11.99 and believe that what we got, even with the temporary discount is a little much.
Just played through it in 2 days.
Turok was something I remembered from long ago, but the N64 wasn't up to the task and that hindered the game greatly.
The remastered version is spot on. I'm not sure what the noise about the price is about. Get it on sale if you can, sure! But I don't think "it's from the 90s" is a valid reason for it to be much less than $20. A lot of work went into remastering it, folks, and that deserves the cost of a few Starbucks coffees.
For those who never played it, think fast paced, keep moving gameplay with lots of secrets, a hub level that lets you go in and out of levels to get the goodies and keys you missed, and lots of enemies that mostly die easy with a bunch that die much harder deaths to spice it up. Decent platforming in spots, good controls, cool weapons.
Tip: go into the options and enable PC music (vs N64 music), and turn off view bobbing completely (especially the other bobbing option, whatever it's called, that tilts the camera when you strafe). You do a lot of running and weaving, and the bobbing can be a bit annoying.
Lastly, good options abound, and most things can be toggled, including the modern draw distance. It even includes a mod to restore the original levels (without some tweaks that were done to modernize the game). Look in the editormods folder in the game folder.
Don't expect super-modern deep Prey style gameplay, but if an odd mix of dinosaurs, particle blood spray, Serious Sam speed, and hunting for those little spots and secret ledges that get you to the keys, buy the game.
