The Lost Land...

A world where time has no meaning - and evil knows no bounds. Torn from a world long gone, the time traveling warrior Turok has found himself thrust into a savage land torn by conflict. An evil overlord known as 'The Campaigner' seeks to shred the fabric of time and rule the universe using an ancient artifact known as 'The Chronoscepter'. The Chronoscepter was shattered thousands of years ago in an effort to keep it from falling into evil hands. The Campaigner has constructed a massive focusing array which he plans to use to magnify and pervert the power of the Chronoscepter in order to shatter the barriers between the ages and rule the universe. Turok has vowed to find the eight pieces of the Chronoscepter spread throughout the Lost Land and put an end to The Campaigner's evil plot...

Mostly for noslalgia

I believe Turok began on Nintendo 64, so it's quite old. The problem with FPS is that graphics tend to get old and, sadly, Turok is such a case - those that played newer games from the genre will likely be disappointed by the level of that, particular area of the game. On the plus side, Turok does offer some pretty unique arsenal and enemies, plus a relatively open level design (for that time period anyway). As far as FPS games go, Turok, even after all these years, is pretty original and that's saying something, considering the genre is rather stale on new ideas for some time now (though every now and than one title gives promise for something). Generally, if you like old-school shooters and don't mind the graphics shown on the screen, I can recommand the game - doubt you'll be disappointed. I do, however, feel the need to point out that the usual price for the game (20 as standard and 16 on sale as of this review) feels a bit high... I'd say half that price (10) seems more appropriate... None the less, Turok is a title that any FPS fan should AT LEAST check -it's not Doom, Quake or Unreal... it's something different from any FPS out there, as far as I know.

NOT WORTH 20 DOLLARS You are Tan'celle'nyo (Tal'set) the first person taking the mantle of Turok. You are an inter-dimensional warrior that travels to the Lost Land in times of great need, such time is now! The warlord that goes by the title of Campaigner is in motion as has spread its tyranny upon the Lost Land and it searches viciously for artifacts of great power that tends to weaponize to conquer the universe! But such a thing cannot happen because you are TUROK, SON OF STONE, TUROK OF THE SAQUIN, TUROK THE HUNTER! NOT WORTH 20 DOLLARS THIS GMAE IS STILL IN A WORK-IN-PROGRESS STATE. MINOR THINGS THAT SHOULD OF BEEN THERE DAY ONE ARE NOT PRESENT! BUGS FROM THE N64/PC ARE STILL PRESENT, AND THE DEVELOPERS HAVE NOT UPDATED THE GAME SINCE 2018. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU NOT TO BUY TUROK DINOSAUR HUNTER AT FULL PRICE. I recommend skiping this game and purchase Turok 2 Seeds of Evil not a full price also highly unfinished. NOT WORTH 20 DOLLARS TUROK RAGE WARS PLEASE!

Outdated, Frustrating

If you grew up and loved this game, I'm sure you'll enjoy playing it again today. Nightdive did a great job of fixing some technical issues and, while it's not as impressive looking today, it still looks decent enough. That being said though: I think the game itself is garbage. Don't get me wrong. I grew up playing Turok and thought it was awesome, but today, it can't even hold a candle to any FPS made in the last two decades. The movement is strange and stiff, the combat is incredibly awful, the platforming is beyond tedious, and God forbid you go up against an enemy with a gun: You'll be dead in several seconds flat because they have impeccable aim and deal more damage, more quickly, than you can. If you really want to play Turok with all of its complete and total jank, do yourself a favor: Play with cheats. Godmode, infinite ammo, whatever. It'll be a much less frustrating experience. As for me, I gave up about 45 minutes in. Life's too short to be playing these old games with outdated designs and bloated artificial difficulty.

Definitely. Not. For this price.

Turok might have been good for one weekend of quick and uncomplicated fun when it came out in 1997. And of course it has a place on GOG for being one of the first titles where studios were figuring out what to do with the Voodoo 1. I mean, wow, what nice looking fog – until it dawns on you the fog is just a trick. So, almost 15€ for the game that was quickly dismissed by players and rightfully dismantled by critics? Dear GOG, have you lost your way, is this show here all about squeezing money out of people with pretty pictures and descriptions written by public relations students? The right price category would be more in the 3-5€ range and I'm pretty sure you know it.
