Turok

I enjoyed playing this game with my cousins when I was younger, and we had a blast! I got the urge to play it again recently and found the remastered version on GOG! I honestly have no complaints so far. All levels are there: weapons, enemies, secrets, etc. The only thing that is missing is the main menu demos that used to be played if you left the game waiting too long.

Somehow this game is still horribly under-appreciated. It changed what a shooter could be. With advanced animations and environments that attempted to simulate living ecosystems. The original Turok is a gem. LORE: Tal'Set is the current Turok, a line of warriors chosen to protect the Earth and the Lost Land. The Lost Land is a planet which has formed over untold time around an interstellar Alien vessel that was stranded in a pocket dimension called the Netherscape. This occurred when it's occupant attempted to travel back in time to witness the creation of the Universe. A journey which resulted in the vessel's power malfunctioning, hurtling the vessel through times and dimensions, sucking in whatever matter and life exists across reality until the vessel finally came to rest in the strange dimension. Over aeons of time, the energy pulled through the tears led to the formation of a new solar space in the Netherscape and much of the matter that accompanied it was fused with the Alien vessel forming an atmosphere and the Lost Land as a new planet. A second consequence of the tears led to a chaotic mix of creatures, plants, civilizations and even inter-dimensional beings calling the Lost Land home. And a never-ending struggle for power and survival wages upon it's surface. The current threat to the Lost Land is the Campaigner. A mighty cyber-enhanced war-lord that has risen to power and seeks an ancient alien artefact, called the Chronosceptre, that can be adapted to control the tears and use them to invade and conquer other worlds, including Earth. It is Tal'Set's task to beat him to the artefact and defeat his plans.

Fun old-school shooter with non-stop action. Fun level design with lots of secrets and some platforming.

This game reminded me of what I loved of the N64 gaming era. Pushing the envelope on shooter games at the time while creating a challenging but rewarding experience. I originally played the 2nd turok and never got to try this till now when I found it on GOG. Give this one a shot, you won't regret it!

To play this game as it was meant to be intended without the limitations and fogging of N64 means you can enjoy a trip back in time with a smooth remastered version which doesnt change the graphics or music other than make it all crisp and shiny. Plug in a joypad and it's instantly configured too, although mouse and keyboard might actually be better. It's a long way back when you die sometimes, but you always end up coming back to this game, despite its simplicity, which is probably what makes it so good and such good value. a simple fps, you want to complete. I couldnt recommend it more. Even if you never played it the first time round, it's worth having imo.
