Turbo Overkill DEMO is available here

Half-metal, half-human, half-crazy

Heavily inspired by some of the all-time greats like Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake, with stunning cyberpunk visuals, Turbo Overkill is the most savage FPS ever released by Apogee. You play as half-metal, half-human, half-crazy Johnny Turbo, augmented with hidden arm rockets and a chainsaw that extends from your lower leg allowing you to kick-slice enemies wide open.

In this Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape, Johnny returns to his hometown of Paradise and finds its entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and its army of augmented minions. Desperate for enough money to outrun his past mistakes, Johnny takes on the impossible job of destroying the greatest AI ever created. Rival bounty hunters want to claim the prize first. Nothing is easy in paradise.

Hero Time, wall-running, dashing and grappling hooks, oh my

Turbo Overkill takes over-the-top to never-before-reached heights. Activate Hero Time(™), a new form of slow motion with a twist. Build incredible speed by wall-running and dashing. Slide on your chainsaw leg, eviscerating foes and opening up bosses for critical damage, and go car-surfing on the hoods of flying cars. Blast away with the Twin Magnums, which lock-on and instagib several foes, the Boomer Shotgun and its attached grenade launcher, or the Telefragger sniper rifle, which teleports Johnny inside an enemy before they explode from within. The FPS genre is about to get wild and fun again.

Race through two dozen stages packed with secrets, bonus arena stages, and white-knuckle combat puzzles. Find game-changing collectibles to unlock punishing modifiers like triple-monster-speed and insta-kill. Combine all of Johnny’s weapons and powers to outsmart, outgun and outrun the corrupted legions.

TL;DR:

o Kill a boss, get its augment (special power)
o Play Spider-Man with your grappling hook
o One-up Duke Nukem with your chainsaw kick
o Kills = cash. Use cash to install augments, upgrade your weapons, and add new abilities in your talent tree
o Be a ghost runner while wall running
o Attack from above riding the hood of your flying car like a kung-furious badass
o Mini-rockets built into your robotic arm? ✔
o This. List. Will. Grow. Wishlist the game to see it happen

Don't quote us on nuthin'

Turbo Overkill is fast, frenetic and ferocious—excess personified,” said Sam Prebble, one half of Trigger Happy Interactive. “This is the game we’ve always wanted to play; making it is a dream project. Relentless enemies, extremely deadly and fun weapons, speed and precision above all else—if you love Quake III Arena, modern and classic DOOM, or Apogee’s legendary first-person shooters, you’ll feel right at home in Paradise.”

“As the guy who helped launch the shooter genre with Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne, and Prey, I haven’t been this excited about an FPS since the golden era of Apogee/3D Realms,” wrote Scott Miller, founder. “Turbo Overkill is a sandbox of fun and original gameplay ideas that come together like a night of melty hot pizza and your favorite cold, frothy brew. Playing this game made me a Turbo Lover all over again.”

Boomer Shooter that's a blast to play!

Turbo Overkill is honestly a blast to play. It's definitely one of my favorite shooters (and games in general) of this year. It's also worth $25. I highly recommend it if you enjoy boomer shooters and FPS games. Pros: - Great, fast gameplay - Fun, creative weapons - Challenging, but fair boss fights - Good level design - Nice gore factor - Really good soundtrack - Entertaining cutscenes - Cool characters and enemies - Interesting mechanics - Blast to play - Really rad action set-pieces - Good graphics and artstyle - Solid controls - Okay story Cons: - Dialogue is a bit meh at times - Cloud save is not supported - Some parts of the game can be really annoying, especially some of the platforming and last few missions (don't get me started on the last boss) - $25 is a bit much for a game like this, but it's really good (much more of a nitpick) - Like another review stated, this version doesn't have the level editor & downloader This game has a few problems, even though they're mostly nitpicks, but I still think this is a fantastic game and an absolute blast to play. Like I said earlier, if you enjoy boomer shooters and FPS games in general, you'll enjoy this game. Good thing I got the game when it was released out of early access. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5 if I could.

Gameplay starts good but ends bad

First two episodes are good with decent short to medium length levels, however by episode 3 the game is dragged out beyond belief with massively longer levels ans also fighting the same boss over and over, they even add in a timer and take out the maunal save system, what you started out liking you forget with the tediousness of episode 3 and the boss "MAW" . During my playthough there was plenty of level breaking Bugs (after release) even if they fixed them it still doesn't take away how dragged out this game is and the other issues listed. Worth getting for the first two episodes, but skip the last one, it will drive you mad.

AMAZING GAME

a near masterclass movement FPS - artstyle is amazing with it being cyberpunk while combining it with bizzare hellish cybernetic fleshy stuff representing the main antagonist of the story, the rogue AI: SYN -every weapon is unique looking and feeling great to use -mobility is amazing with you being able to move fast, jump high, air dahs, and slide into enemies with your chainsaw leg as for cons - menus are a bit simple in design but not a massive problem - ammo feels too abundant, it feels like there is very little need to switch between weapons from an ammo standpoint because every weapon besides the rocket launcher you'll almost always be fully stocked with ammo, it never feels likes a struggle on an ammo standpoint in any fight you get into overall a BADASS game and a great first game from this company

Quite fun with some quirks

The extreme Tl;Dr of this game is the movement and speed potential of Ultrakill, plus the setting of Ion Fury ( not literally ofc but you get the drill) with some style from the older Borderlands games. The result is not bad at all, moving around mowing down bad guys is fun, the sound effects feel good, the graphics are very pleasant. My problems with this game are honestly super subjective: I think the arsenal (including the chainsaw but ESPECIALLY the Waster) is way too buff even on the highest setting, I'm halfway through episode 2 and I haven't found an enemy that could realistically pose a threat with this amount of firepower. So in a weird way, this ends up reminding me of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart: feels very good and responsive, but the challenge just isn't there for me Maybe episode 3 will whoop my ass, we'll see... My second issue is even more subjective so if the dev ends up reading this, don't take it too seriously, but I do believe Johnny is a little too edgy: I didn't need to see the second boss' ripped off lifeless head get smushed, and I rolled my eyes when Johnny made a rope with some jobber's guts, it felt VERY Brutal Doom to me. I much prefer characters who are more......reserved in their violence, for the lack of a better word. Like Doomguy in the 2016 game, I think he comes off as ruthless without going over the top. But like I said, SUPER subjective, not even a real issue given I can skip the cutscenes Overall I give it a 4 because gamefell, audio and retro style are all on point big time, I just I didn't feel so easily op

Great fun but you might need cheats!

This game is kind of a mashup of some of my favourite games - Doom, Hard Reset, Bioshock, Painkiller, Cyberpunk, Serious Sam, Red Eclipse (original non-Steam version), Sauerbraten and probably one or two others. It’s high-octane fun with a good range of weapons (although if anyone can get alt-fire on the plasma gun to work pls let me know). The story is simple enough but embellished by some well-put-together recordings which play back your character’s earlier life and also others’ conversations, which deepen the plot and add a feeling of genuine pathos towards your character. But the game is very much about fast-paced action, big battles, all in a cyberpunk-style environment, making a change from hell ‘n’ demons stuff. You’re trained (through the battles) as you go along to cope with an ever-greater number of enemies and scenarios. There’s a decent range of enemies, all of which as you’d expect need their own strategies. And if the chainsaw leg idea puts you off, don’t let it, it’s not that bloody and, crucially you can augment it to give you health when killing enemies, which is crucial to beat the game. In fact there’s one particular enemy which seems to be designed for you to gather health :D I played the game on ‘give me pain’ level. Most of the time it was fine, challenging but beatable. But on two or three occasions there’s just too much jumping and/or parkour required to be fun (cue ‘noclip’ cheat). And the boss fights, admittedly not my favourite part of games, are ludicrously difficult (cue god mode - I promise I tried but it just got silly…) Lastly, there’s a lot of this game - even when you think it might be over it isn’t - almost too much although it changes environments fairly regularly, including an epic space battle,
