Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is a platforming game of action, puzzles and adventure, and the sequel to the award winning Trine and Trine 2. Reunite with the familiar heroes - Pontius the Knight, Amadeus the Wizard and Zoya the Thief in an all-new adventure, now for the first time in full 3D!

Playable in single-player or in co-up with up to three players, both locally or online.

The Story

Amadeus the Wizard, Pontius the Knight, and Zoya the Thief have slowly come to the conclusion that having their lives commandeered by a powerful magical artifact is not a desirable state of existence on a permanent basis.

The heroes try to return their extraordinary gifts to the Artifact called Trine, and so they meddle with powers beyond their understanding: Trine shatters and a heartless ancient sorcerer escapes. With only a broken artifact to guide them, the heroes must try and repair the damage they've caused... or the damage that might yet be done.
  • Online and Local Co-op - Up to three players can play online and local co-up. Any mix is possible (for example 2 local, 1 online) and you can switch from singleplayer to multiplayer and vice versa. Play with your friends and explore the secrets together!
  • The Lost Pages - The ultimate test to your skills, the Lost Pages feature the most incredible contraptions, character-driven design, and ridiculous puzzles. Are you skilled enough to unlock all the Lost Pages?
  • Soundtrack - Award-winning composer Ari Pulkkinen returns for an amazing fantasy soundtrack!
  • Fantastic Fantasy - Adventure through breathtakingly beautiful landscapes in an enchanting fairytale world, and for the first time ever explore the Trine world in a full 3D setting, allowing you to go check out all the nooks and crannies that have been so alluring in the past.

this is really good.

for me this is a really good add to trine series... 3D it's really strange in this game but I think it is done right and I would like to see more in future. I know that this game it's a little short, but trine 1 and 2 were not so long. while the best of the series it's still trine 2, I loved trine 3 too.

Not perfect but.

Despite having obvious flaws (lenght and 2.5D issues) it is beatiful and enjoyable. Some people have complaint about diverging from the original atmosphere. I don't agree, I feel Trine 3 is loyal to its origins and remains a magical game and delightful experience unlike anything else.

Trine 3 : way too 'innovative'

I love Trine; funny and adventurous co-op games, such as Trine and Magicka, with a dash of magic to them are exactly what I like to play in the evenings. Trine 3 brings many changes to the series, including different skills and movement. I comment on some of the changes below. Graphics & System Requirements The game is beautiful (and I would expect no less from Trine), but despite fulfilling all the System Requirements, the game tends to be laggy and freezy. I've never had problems playing Trine (2) selecting the highest resolution and graphic settings; Trine 3 causes problems even when played on 'Very Low' resolution. Gameplay & 3D The story is brilliant, but compared to the previous games in the series, the gameplay is awfully short. Trine 3 brings 3D environment to the game (Trine and Trine 2 use 2D environment while having plastic objects). This is an interesting change, but not quite polished. You'll find yourself falling off a lot and misplacing objects. Controls & Skills The controls are a bit confusing and not so good because of the 3D change, e.g.hitting someone with a cube proves difficult because the third dimension movement is controlled by a mouse wheel. Cube rotation also vanished from the game. Zoya was stripped off her ability to jump on objects in which she swings. But there are good bits, too - for example wall jumping. The skills are disappointing, too. The 'Level up' sestem was taken out and you are stuck with what you get at the beginning of the game. Collecting points The game changes the philosophy of progress - to proceed, you need to collect points. There are side missions to aid you if you didn't collect all the points in the previous level. This is sad as it restricts players to proceed smoothly. The previous system upgrading skills was better indeed. Overall, I am sad to say that Trine 3 does not meet the expectations the previous games set, which is a shame but a dedicated Trine fan will enjoy it regardless of the problems.

Short, kinda fun puzzles, unfinished

So I finally played through the very obviously unfinished Trine 3, Frozenbytes ambitious attempt at converting the Trine-series into a 3D-adventure with greater freedom for the player. The experiment obviously didn't pan out as the developer hoped and Frozenbyte has openly admitted that the they had to stop making the game about a third in because they ran out of funds. Personally, I love shorter games as my life situation seldomly allow for longer gaming sessions and there are a lot of games out there that I want to experience, but Trine 3 does not feel like a complete game - the story (which itself is traditionally bland and adds nothing to the experience) ends abruptly with the heroes saying "two more to go" before fading to black. The heroes and gameplay are similar to previous games but sadly, two out of three characters have been nerfed substantially. Amadeus the wizard can no longer summon planks and his only function now is spawning boxes or smashing levitating objects into enemies (ok, that part is enjoyable). Zoya the thief on the other hand has been relegated to the backseat completely as bugs prevent you from using her bow in a fight unless absolutely necessary - I fought three enemies in a fight and 7 out of 10 arrows hit the ground right in front of me. The game tries to evolve the physics puzzles by using Zoyas rope to attach different objects in order to create pulleys which is neat but both combat and platforming are now completely the realm of Pontius the knight which can float using his shield, smash obstacles, fight of dozens of enemies at a time and dashing to jump further. A tad dissapointing since Zoya was my favorite character. The game looks rather pretty but is surprisingly taxing considering the not so impressive graphics. I will admit however that the final boss, although very easy to beat, is a a fun fight that I enjoyed. Looking forward to part 4!

micro-review

The change from 2D to 3D made the game clunky. The game is still beautiful but less so than 1 & 2. The story is boring and the ending is something that you would see in the middle of a game, not in the end. The puzzles are easy. You no longer upgrade you characters, which I'm fine with. I loved Trine 1 & 2, but 3 is pretty meh unfortunately. Rating: ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Recommendation: ¯_(ツ)_/¯ http://pixelloot.com
