Description
This game was clearly made with passion. You can see the proof of this almost everywhere. The 2D environments are colorful and enchanting, gameplay feels smooth and polished, not to mention the absolutely huge and very diversified world in which you can spend many hours just exploring. Treasure Adventure Game casts you in the role of a young boy who lands on an island that is a fragment of what was once a continent, destroyed in the war between a demon and a wizard. You accept quests, travel across the oceans, and generally have a bang-up time of being a little boy in a big world, out there looking for treasure and adventure. Your equipment consists of a hat, a parrot, and a boat that appears whenever you touch water. Combine those with the basic platforming abilities like jumping and crawling that you’re familiar with from every platforming game ever, and you’ve got the basics of a phenomenal romp across a huge world filled with treasure, maps, secrets, danger, and triumph.

The music changes with the environments and day-night cycles, enhancing the feel the game is evoking and making you feel immersed in the world as you travel through it. The game has a retro feel, yes, but you really have to see it for yourself to understand what Treasure Adventure Game brings to the table. Since it’s free, of course, there is simply no reason not to!

Treasure Adventure Game was created by Stephen Orlando. He spent over 2 years of his life developing it. When you see the scope and detail in this game, it’s hard to believe that it was created by just one guy. But it was! So if you like it, head over to his website and break that donate button!
  • Huge, open, and highly interactive world to explore and a very interesting story to experience.
  • Very diversified environments with changing weather and NPCs that are not static but living their lives.
  • Beautiful music, composed by Robert Ellis, that changes with the background and creates a very unique and enchanting mood.

Why no one heard about this game!!

This is an excellent game!!!! I was not aware of this game at all!! I only saw that it sits in my gog account unused with some uninteresting cover picture. I thought that this was one of those 3-day development game for kids. But nooooooooooo, I was so wrong!!!! GREAT GAME!! Once you start playing it, you will be suck into the world of islands. Mix of old school Castelvania and Metriod is beyond good here. You go, collect items to unlock new areas, fight interesting bosses and collect treasures (like in Zelda games). 8-bit style graphics adds to its charm. If you have played any of above mentioned games, you will immediately feel at home. This is a game of nostalgic players who grew up playing such games. Worth checking out, since that it is free. Thing that could be improved: Well, final boss fight could have been more difficult, considering that previous bosses were epic.

A Game w/ More Heart Than Most AAA Games

TLDR: Play This Silly Game w/ a Walkthrough I was debating on what to play one day & this title ended up in front of me. It was either this or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. I chose to play through this & I was glad I did. This game is an enigma when it comes to how it plays compared to many contemporary titles. It does assist in helping you find your way at first, but once that assist is complete, the game trusts in the player to figure out the rest. There are no waypoints, only maps with an approximate location to find an item. It's like an actual treasure hunt. The game basically tells the player "good luck, you know what to do, so hop to it." I am somewhat sad to say this, but I did have to use a walk through for a few items... Now, hear me out. There are a few locations that you will get to on this quest that you will forget about. Those locations were what I forgot about & was where I required a walkthough. Otherwise, with a keen eye, it's relatively straightforward. The environments were gorgeous to look at & relatively easy to navigate. I say relatively, as there are some background items that you need to interact with that are not always easy to see. That would be a major grip in any other game, but just a small grip here as this title is free. There is even a dynamic weather system & a night/day cycle. Both of which attempt to make this game feel alive. The final thing I need to cover are the boss battles. Due to the nature of this game, the battles are either quite simple or infuriating. I'll let you, the player, find out what I'm talking about here. So I finally finish this game and the ending had me laughing hysterically. It was the most unexpected end to any game that I've played. Play this title, it's free for goodness sake. With the review out of the way, I give this a golf score of: Par

A pleasant exploration-driven adventure

Treasure Adventure Game feels a lot like a 2D, retro version of The Legend of Zelda's Wind Waker: The game focuses on traveling to various islands on an oceanic world, in search of artifacts, tools, and treasure. The locations you end up going to are fairly diverse, and seeing the new locations and discovering what they had to offer was a major driving point for me. Like Wind Waker, though, the setting and resulting gameplay might not be for everyone. You spend a good chunk of time sailing on the ocean between islands, and there were a number of times I found myself aimlessly wandering the world in search of what to do next. In a couple of instances, I wasn't actually sure if I was missing something. An example of this was on an island with pivoting platforms used to ascend upward; you are supposed to acquire a jump-boosting item, but I somehow managed to get up several platforms without it. When I reached a dead-end farther up, I thought there was a general movement technique that I just didn't know how to perform. Overall, I think the game is a worthwhile experience, particularing if you like games with slower, more atmospheric moments. It meanders a bit at times--something that arguably might not even be considered a flaw, depending on the person--but it offers a nice blend of exploration, combat, platforming, and storytelling/lore.

Can't overly complain, when it's free!

But it is just a cute platformer. Not my favourite game genre. Still this one does have a certain charm to it, and it does have a bit of cerebral adventuring to it. It must be popular though, as a more modern remake has been done. Which is not free BTW. I played it for a couple of days before getting bored, but if old school cutesy platformers are your thing, you will enjoy this free gift. I notice a lot of recent 1-star reviews claiming "it doesn't work". Ok, I tried it years ago, but maybe there are compatability problems with Win10 these days. If so, well...... it cost you nothing, so it all seems a bit harsh. Likewise the masses of 5-star reviews all seem just spam one liners, you know, "iz gaem". One just says "13/10". DUH! Another says "is bad game". So why give it 5 stars then? DUUUUUUH! GOG reviews are getting more like Steam reviews these days, swamped with retard level spam, trash and fake reviews posted by kids who barely know how to squeeze their own zits! GOG need to overhaul their primitive review system. Add the ability to edit them later FGS! Add a proper "report" system for trash, spam and fakes.
