Something Evil Lurks at Winterlake

While investigating the disappearance of twin girls at Winterlake, something terrible happens to Caroline Walker. Waking in the dead of night, naked and hooked up to some kind of outdated medical equipment in a bathtub, Caroline must fight for her life as she explores the halls of the abandoned mansion.

A Nod to the Classics

Tormented Souls draws inspiration from classic survival horror like From Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alone in the Dark. A modern take on the fixed-perspective action-adventure game, Tormented Souls offers a modernised control scheme and dynamic camera combined with classic gameplay.

Deadly Combat

Dark forces and unspeakable horrors will do everything in their power to stop Caroline getting to the truth. Use anything and everything that you can find to fight back against evils lurking in the darkness.

Keep Your Wits About You

You'll need much more than a steady aim and sharp reflexes to make it out alive. Search the environment for anything you can use to your advantage. Combine items to solve twisted puzzles and use every resource available to explore the secrets of the mansion and its grounds.

Fiendish Puzzles

Scavenge essential resources and tools, decipher clues from long-forgotten journals, and combine it all to solve fiendish puzzles and get to the bottom of the mansion's sordid history.

Another Dimension

Nothing is quite as it seems at Winterlake. Mirrors provide a path to an alternate reality and another place in time. By crossing these shimmering gateways, Caroline can manipulate the very fabric of reality in surprising ways.

You Are Not Alone In the Dark

The mansion may seem abandoned, but as Caroline investigates its secrets, dark forces and unspeakable horrors will do everything in their power to stop her getting to the truth. Be sure to be alert at all times, and use anything you can find to fight off the encroaching terrors of Winterlake. Just remember: gaze into the darkness, and it also gazes into you...

Can Caroline Walker discover the truth and escape with her life?

Tormented Souls is a throwback....

A throwback to the good ol' days of survival horror, when resource management mattered, when 2 enemies could wipe out your inventory with poor planning, puzzles that require some thinking, etc. This is a true survival horror game, with the traditional style of gameplay before every game wanted to be Resident Evil 4 or Amensia. Cheesy voice acting, monster design, level design, backtracking, it's all there. There is a little bit of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Haunting Ground inspirations in this game. Do yourself a favor and check it out ASAP!

A love letter to survival horror games

Let's get the TL;DR out of the way. If you enjoyed OG Resident Evil and Silent Hill, this game will fill that void left in your heart. The tank controls are back (but improved IMO), the atmosphere that the game creates it's perfect. a lot of puzzles in a creepy mansion with some enemies that at the beginning you really feel like they are a challenge. The voice acting is kinda bad but is part of the charm of old survival horror games. You could argue it was made on purpose like that. The story feels rushed at the beginning, like it wants to get to the serious part really quick. I would have loved a bit of backstory. but overall the story was good, not amazing but good. I have nothing but respect for the devs that made this game, lets not forget that a small team made this experience. I enjoyed the crap out of this game. I assure you that if you play this game, you'll feel the same.

Life is too short for this

What a crying shame, it looks great and has an interesting enough premise... It works with disorienting camera views much like early resident evil games, except even worse and more unfairly. Aiming is clunky as is, then you take a step back and suddenly the monsters aren't in the picture cause you entered a different view. On top of that they need several good hits, All fine and dandy, if saving was available in reasonable intervals, But first having to replay the whole prologue because something that kills you was designed to look like the graphic card acting up, upon which I looked for my phone to document it instead of getting our of there.... and then replaying half an hour because safepoints were so far apart and I died a completely unfair death... well, that's when I gave up on it. With regrett, cause it looks cool and the puzzles were pleasant so far.

Scratches the survival horror itch well.

Classic Resident Evil gameplay with Silent Hill puzzles. If you like those games, this is worth your time. The game ran well for me, played it on maxed settings and had no frame drops or tearing or anything of the sort. Had two minor glitches, one bouncing on terrain and the other having some kind of inventory effect applied outside of the inventory. Neither required a reload to fix. The puzzles go deeper than some of the Silent Hill puzzles. All puzzles were satisfying. I got totally stumped by a couple puzzles. One, a logic riddle. And two, an interactable in the environment that I had forgotten about and struggled to find when it was the solution at hand. It never got repetitive gameplay wise and difficulty felt right to me. They gated progression in clever ways that did not feel forced. The dialogue is a little bit stilted, but that works for me. It's mostly a delivery thing in the voice acting. It didn't keep me out of the story, which I felt was mostly well written. Has some of that RE medical horror but doesn't do that annoying thing RE does where it pivots into paramilitary spy intrigue. Had the SH psychological horror themes. Thoroughly enjoyed the story which is delivered mostly through diary entries found in the world. They do get very male gaze with the camera work in the first two minutes. I found it off-putting insofar as they are setting up a vulnerable main character while horned up. I get gratuitous nudity is a horror trope but it hurts the focus of the intro. And I am happy to report that IS NOT INDICATIVE of the tone of the rest of the game- they never get bogged down into that stuff again. Also, they provide an alternate costume if the big anime bows seem like too much to you as they did to me. Jeans, riding boots and a cropped leather jacket. Overall very happy I played this! It earned all 5 of the stars I gave it. I will be watching this company as I am excited to see what they do next.

Excellent survival horror, some gripes.

Excellent survival horror that replicates the classic titles very well while leaving me with some small gripes. Pros: - excellent puzzle design. They're varied, challenging and (mostly) fair - completely nails the old Resident Evil/Silent Hill atmosphere. You could get confused and think you're playing a game from that era - good tension - good combat. You get to shoot DIY weapons including a pipe shotgun - fine story. It has some convoluted parts, but still is above average for the genre Cons: - some pacing issues. Last area could be cut completely; there was also a moment in the middle of too much backtracking back and forth between puzzles - the map is bad. It doesn't have any quality of life features, doesn't even open on the correct page. If you want to keep list of puzzles you have encountered, you have to do it yourself. And then, there are areas that have no map... - the pickupable items blend with the clutter. I've seen worse, but still, be thorough in searching the rooms - combat in a game with fixed camera angles. But that's what you came here for, right? (copied from my Steam review since I bought the game a second time here)
